I have to submit my receipts for my airfare and motel expenses to the education office to get refunded. By my contract they must pay for my airfare and by the official's admission they have to pay for the motel we had to stay in before we got our permenant housing.

Now I have a fair amount of other expenses that I think they should pay but do not seem obligated to pay such as the cost of my visa, the hotel we had to stay in while we waited for our visa to be processed and the bus trip from Incheon to Gunsan. I'm wondering if I should include all these receipts and see if they'll reimburse me or if I may be stirring up trouble.

Sorry, almost certain you'll find your "other costs" are yours, not theirs.

I wouldnt push it.

Cost of your visa: they don't have to pay for this unless it says so in the contract.

Hotel stay while you wait for your visa: depends...was this a visa run to Japan?

Bus trip: It depends...but you have to ask yourself if it is worth it to ask for this...

I would list all fo the actual expenses that you really feel they are justified in paying, and submit them - ie/ the hotels are legit but say, the fact that you had to eat out while you were in a hotel would be something that would not be legit (IMHO). In other words, be reasonable about it all and accept that some things are your own resposibility - if you are fair, then they should be fair as well......in a perfect world

Submit the list and see what happens - they will most likely not pay all of it, but at least you tried.

Yeah, I don't expect to get much beyond my airfare....maaaaaybe my hotel expenses in Korea since the official told me to my face that he'd cover it (in the contract, it says the employer may pay for temporary housing...now how vague and useless is that?). Part of the reason I want to show all of my expenses is to show him that I don't owe him or the school jack...every time I have a meeting with the official (and come to think of it, several other people have tried this as well), he tries to tell me that he's done me so many favors by getting me this job and implies that I owe him or should be thankful. I'm sick of people who sit on their asses or worse, meddle in my affairs without my knowledge, then act as if I owe them for their fine work.

Submit your expenses along with a copy of the reciepts(you'll never see the originals again) and hope for the best.

Worst case scenario is: they say no
