do you have to get out, literally. If your E2 card says May 5th, means you must exit on that very day, on the 5th?
Could someone clarify ?
Thanks, |

14 days is if you get an exit order from immigration when you get fired or quit before your contract is up. OP, I think you should try to leave ASAP if you don't want to chance getting some kind of fine or another. |

I got this message in the mail today:
You are informed that the period of your stay wil be expired and that, desiring to continue to stay, you may get such information from the immigration office or branch office prior to its expiration.
Please note that overstaying, which means violating the Immigration Law, will not enable you to escape any punishment.
So, it might be best to contact the immigration office if you wish to stay past the visa expiration date. That is, if you want to "escape punishment"! |

14 days on an exit order but 0 days if you've completed your contract, otherwise youre subject to hassle & maybe fines at the airport. Arrange the extension you need with immigration before the expiry date. |

I'm pretty sure it goes by the date on your E2 visa/ARC and not on your contract, i.e. if your contract expires on the 30th March but your visa is good until the 30th April then if you intend to stay in Korea you must get an LOR from your director and then you have 14-days once your visa has been cancelled by immigration. Can anyone else confirm or deny this? |

I am still bitter about this. I was given a huge fine a few years ago because every single monkey on this board said that you have a few days after your visa is over. NO NO NO NO NO NO NO NO NO NO. You have to go to immigration if you need an extension and if you don't go then you will have trouble because of overstaying on your visa. |

I am one of the monkeys on this thread.
Anyway, it only makes sense. If your visa expires, and your still here, you're overstaying. That's why you need to go to immigration and get an extension. |

always wondered why 'they' are in such a hurry to get rid of us right after our contract. I for one, would love to stay an extra month spend a bit of my years pay and boost the economy. |

Yes, the expiration date on your ARC is the day you must be gone. In fact, I've heard of people getting harrassed by immigration for leaving on the day that the ARC expires, so if possible you may want to leave a day earlier to avoid hassles.
As others have pointed out, do not confuse this with the 14 days you have to leave if your sojourn is cancelled in the middle of your visa. That is only if your visa gets cancelled (for example, if you quit your job or get fired). If the expiration date has come, you must be gone. No grace period. |

OK, can someone help me get this straight aswell? My visa says it is valid for one year but expired 3 months after it was issued - I assume this is because it is the n replaced by the ARC. The date the ARC expires is exactly one year after I arrived in Korea - the day before I started teaching. Does this mean I have to leave Korea the day before my year is up? Is that possible? It all seems so rushed...does anyone know the answer?
Thanks. |

I believe JB is correct. I was fired from one position and had 14 days to leave the country. If your contract ends the same day as your ARC ending date then you do have to leave. I guess if you want to keep working you need to get the new employer down to immigration before the ending date. I haven't experience that yet..maybe someone else has? |

Yes, I have the answer for you.
- Your ENTRY on the visa expires 90 days after it is issued.
- The thing in your passport is your entry visa.
- IF you enter the country before the expiry date, THEN your are entitled to a period of sojourn for a period of 1 year. E2 visas can be extended within that time for up to one additional year on each renewal.
- If you do not renew or extend or replace your visa then you MUST leave by the date indicated on your registration card (ARC). |
