Other than the obvious moral/ethical factors re just "up and leaving" a job and the country - is there anything at immigration etc. that costs or causes complications when leaving the country mid contract and without telling anyone? |

No complications to you unless you wish to comeback and work here.
Complications to others will be many however...then again this does not seem to come into your decision making process.
Best of luck out there. |

Only if your boss finds out about it and decides to launch legal action against you for some reason. There's nothing to stop you from going to the airport and leaving. |

You may have valid reasons for leaving...your post didn't say much.
Could you elaborate a little on your situation?
Then again......... Korea sucks.....best to just cut and run.
I've pretty much felt that way about every job I've had here so far...but somehow, I'm still here.
I must have rocks in my head.
Got an email from a friend in Mexico. He doesn't make much, but his life sounds so much more enjoyable than mine.
Good luck to you. |

If you cut and run you obviously won't be dallying to ask for a LOR (letter of release). As many know the LOR shows immigration you were ok with your previous boss (the boss has to be feeling generous to grant it). And if immigration accepts an LOR from you then you can carry on into another job, clean slate. By clean slate I mean the previous E2, unifinished, is forgotten. You then can start another, new E2 one year work visa.
Depending on the particular immigration office. Depending on how long you had left in the contract when you left. Depending on your work history in Korea. These factors influence whether the immigration office will accept your LOR from the previous boss.
If you run you would, at the least, have to wait out the visa period of that visa you left. Maybe complaints from your ex-boss to immigration would bring more serious consequences. I dunno. |
