Ive never taught TOEFL listening, but Ive been asked to give it a shot.
How do most of you that teach the listening portion go about it?
Do you try and explain every answer? What method or formats do you use?
What do you try and key on? |

This is the official TOEFL site: http://www.ets.org/portal/site/ets/menuitem.435c0b5cc7bd0ae7015d9510c3921509/?vgnextoid=69c0197a484f4010VgnVCM10000022f95190RCRD
You may find some help here. I haven't taught the listening part...only the writing, but a friend of mine just took the test and said that there was about 5 minutes of dialogue, then they had to answer 8 questions. They couldn't see the questions before hearing the dialogue. I'd have students listen to longer and longer segments of dialogue, teach them HOW to listen and what to listen for.
Will your school pay for some teaching materials? If they will, be SURE to check out what you choose THOROUGHLY!!! I've seen some TERRIBLE TOEIC materials out there...don't know about the TOEFL stuff though. |
