So my new schedule for the new year was finalized yesterday. (For purposes of clarity, "class" refers to a 40 minute period)
Monday--8 classes
Tuesday--1 class (in the morning)
Wednesday--9 classes (only break is for lunch)
Thursday--1 class (in the afternoon)
Friday--2 classes (back to back)
The problem is that all but 3-4 of these classes are double periods (2 40 min periods with the same class) so they can't really be broken up. I tried to have a few of them switched, but was told that the other periods were all full what with science, math, music.
So basically I work like a dog 2 days out of the workweek and do hardly anything the other three days.
Fun time, fun times |

Just got my schedule today,
Monday three third grade classes and 1 advanced class for first and second graders.
Tuesday, three second grade classes and 1 advanced class for third graders.
Wednesday, three first grade classes.
Thursday, one english class for my two english co-workers and 1 advanced class for first and second graders
Friday, two classes for any and all teachers along with 1 advanced class for third graders and one class as the Basketball Coach to end the week
three of the these are considered extra so I will get paid OT for them, not bad at all. Pretty evenly spread out throughout the week. |

HS? MS? ES? I work in an elementary school. Supposedly next year it will only go up to grade 5. OH YEAH! Grade 6s are dreadfully bad and having them out after grade 5 will be a dream. |

No, I love my grade 5 class and would hate to see them not be here when they come around next year. (yes, I work at an elementary school, no leveled classes or special classes either.) |

Yeah, but heres the thing: THEY CHANGE. I love grade 5s. I think grade 5 is the best age group to teach. By a long shot. But they change. The happy, enthusiastic, polite grade 5s turn into bored, "couldnt give a crap", impolite grade 6s by middle of the year. Happened to me last year, been told it happens every year. Just wait and see. |

They get a lot better when they come to grade 1 MS, really.
As for my schedule:
M - 5
T - 5
W - 5
Th - 4
F - 3
At least in *theory*. It's a rare week when I get to see every class. |

Well, the go from ES where they are the Kings and Queens, the hyeongs and Nunas and Oppas and Oannis and go to a new environment where they are the lowly, lowly dongsengs. The bullies from grade 6 now become the bullied. Sense is quickly beaten into them by the teachers and by the older students. No wonder they become better. |

That sucks!
Last year I was almost the opposite. Four days of the week were brutal, but I still had to come in to work (long commute) on Wednesday for the purposes of two classes.
I'd much rather work a normal schedule everyday and the boss knew that. He even had the option of giving us the entire Wednesday off and having the other foreign teacher cover that day (so for example a teacher would teach four classes one week on Wed. and then have the next week Wed. off). But noooooo. |

Thought you worked at an elementary school? there are only 6 classes a day at my school, unless you count special classes.
the double classes must be hell on the kids too. they don't get time to process one lesson before moving on to the next. |

I don't get it, if they aren't closing until May why is your schedule open? |
