one whole thread devoted to Russia.. where you went.. where you want to go.. what you thought of the Russians if you did go.. what would you do again.. what will you do if you go.. you name it, post it!
Personally I would LOVE to get to Vladivostok.. maybe possibly as far as Moscow.. but if I can experience the culture/country on the Eastern side.. all the better! |

| To you have to be on an offical tour to get a visa to travel around Russia. From what I read on the embassy's website it seems that you need a tour in order to get a visa to enter Russia. |

to get a visa:
1. Book a hotel online for a minimum of one night - they will fax you an invite and a voucher (may cost you an extra 25 or so USD)
2. Send those and passport and application and fee to Russian consolate/embassy. Put on app. where you want to go (and where you may want to go)
3. Get visa. Go to Russia.
4. You'll have to register your stay. Your hotel will do this for you. |

Russia is a great place from what I saw, I had the opportunity to get to St. Petes every 14 days for an overnight stay while working on board a cruise ship for 5 months cruising the Baltics.
Took the opportunity to fly to Moscow for an overnighter also, its like an open air museum, much like Roma.
Don't know about the ins and outs of the visa process as we came in via ports and all we needed was our Seamans book (like a passport).
From the moment you step foot in Russia you feel a certain mystique, hard to describe.
St. Petes is a cool place, the nevsky prospect (downtown) is hopping with things to do, great shopping, great tourist attractions, great restaurants and some of the most amazing night clubs I have ever been to.
Stunning women everywhere you look, I am actually considering going to teach english in St. Petes after this contract, maybe 6 months or so. |

| I went to St Petersburg and Moscow and really wish I had gone to a smaller, more out-of-the-way place. It's a very interesting country but I'd hesitate to call it pleasant. A few things can also be very expensive. I'd still really recommend it, though, and the visa isn't all that difficult to go about getting - I got mine processed in five days in Helsinki. |

| I'm thinking about taking a boat up to Vladivostok and back this summer.. maybe around 5-10 days maximum. |
