well it seems the overzealous celebrations you guys spoke of may have been a tad premature......
just watched the game in japan. 6-0 is a right royal stuffing isn't it? i'm curious as to how the press and the general public over there will handle this.....i wonder if they'll take it gracefully.
i'll keep you up to date on the reactions over here..... |

I love it. My students are gonna get an ear full. The Korean people will probably say it was because of the rain or something and that the game should have been delayed.
Korea deffinately had a great tourney, I wonder if the team feels the same way, or do they feel like they've failed. They deffinately weren't supposed to make it as far as they did. Hats off to them.
The tournament itself is awesome. |

They'll complain of course. If the Japanese team wins then the Koreans will say the Korean team should be the champions....'cause Korea already beat Japan!!!!!!!!"
Some crap like that.
I guess the players didn't eat enough Kimchi this morning. |

It was an incredibly stupid tournament. Who wants to see Korea play Japan three times? What a waste. The way of advancing in this tournament was just lame and poorly thought out. |

Yeah the way the 2nd round was set up was pretty lame. It would have been much more interesting if they had a team from each pool in the 2nd round divisions. |

Right.
Cross-overs in the second round, and the semi-finals, would have been more interesting, but difficult considering the venues they were playing. |

Well, I hope Cuba wins it all and takes their place as the rightful champions. Too bad that because of Bush's politics they won't be able to use the price money to buy themselves something nice or support their poor families. |

I want to congratulate the Japs on their win over the hermit kingdom. The 6-0 win was fantastic and I can go to school tomorrow with some great anti-Korean material to use on my bandwagon students. It certainly looks good on Korea having "fluked" their way into this final four. Yes, their hitting barely got them through and they played error free ball during the tournament. But let's face it, they are minor league compared the likes of Cuba and the Dominican Republic! The Japanese victory is even sweeter since we have been swamped with those repeat broadcasts of their wins over those baseball powerhouses Taiwan and China and continuing highlights from the speedskating in Torino
Japan has a chance to make the final score against Cuba a bit more respectable; more so than a Korean opponent. They are more sound in all areas than the Korean team. But I certainly don't think anyone could beat Cuba...not at this point in time. The only ones who can beat Cuba are the Cubans themselves!
After listening to the commentators monotone remarks and the abrupt end to the program this afternoon,(in stark contrast to their previous games when the commentators were shouting in orgasms),I thought that it would be the end of the coverage. But then I realized that the distinct possibility of a Japanese team being routed by a far superior Cuban team would make for great anti-Japanese propaganda(Damn it!). As far as I know the final will be shown...too bad it wasn't on afn!....
Oh Yeah...Don't be at all surprised in the days ahead to read stories in those junk Korean English newspapers about how brave the Korean team was and how some players played through chips to their fingernails and HOW KIMCHI CONSUMPTION HELPED THE PLAYERS PLAY BETTER and how their fans were the best ones...yada yada....whoopdy fuchin' do! |

Ahhh... I called it nicely in the other forum...
"I think Korea's luck will run out this game. Everything has been going almost perfectly their way so far, perfect throws to the plate, timely hitting, poor opposing manager decisions - U.S. game walking the bases loaded to get Hee Sop Choi who then hits a grand slam, great pitching. In baseball even the best teams can only go so long with those things working 100%. I'm taking Japan."
'Classic' Korean Baseball Draws Frank Praise in U.S.
http://english.chosun.com/w21data/html/news/200603/200603170025.html
"MLB.com, the official website of the Major League, as well as fan sites on ESPN, the official broadcaster of the WBC, were swamped with posts from U.S. fans complimenting the Koreans on their game."
This is true baseball. It was such an interesting game, wrote one. The Korean team has superb pitchers. They are good at fielding and have strong fundamentals, said another. Such a great game that I havent seen for ages. It was the best-ever! said a third. At least one Netizen also paid tribute to the Korean teams appearance saying, Koreans are so handsome and cool,
"U.S. fans still compared their luckless heroes unfavorably with the Northeast Asians. The US team is such a loser compared to Korea. They are overestimated, wrote one disgruntled fan."
hmmmmm...these quotes really sound as if they were written by Americans...thank god they lost today. |

Don't count out Japan yet against the Cubans. Japan has their ace stud pitcher throwing. The outcome in baseball is very volatile and this is only one game not a best of seven.
I predict Japan will win 3-2. |

well the japanese have been far more sedate in their celebrations. and far more humble. lots of replays but hardly any 'we're the best in the world' 'we are no. 1' 'take that and eat shite world' yada yada.
though that's to be expected of the relatively passive japanese. to be honest i think there is a sense of relief coz of how poorly they'd performed in the olympics and baseball classic. i think they were overjoyed that they hadn't failed again.
was happy to see in another post the compliments from the US fans on korea. granted the website can pick and choose the comments it posts but can you imagine korean fans writing the same after a loss to the US?
anyway, will keep you up to date. |

They were more sedate because they had lost twice to Korea and couldn't say shit.
You don't think Ichiro's comments in the qualifying rounds were arrogant? |
