I got bored with my router, and decided to update the firmware on it. My router is the Linksys WRT54G wifi version 4. I had read about how you can do this and improve performance. Wow, it's pretty cool. It seems to be faster.
Updating it was pretty easy, once I figured out that it was a whole lot simpler than how I was trying to go about it. I was trying to burn the .bin files from the site, but I didn't need to do that at all. The router upgrades directly off of loading the .bin file.
Anyway, here is an interesting link from wiki about all of this. I have noticed an increase in speed, and am checking for bugs and other issues. It hasn't been perfect, but I suspect that some of the problem is due to wifi interference from a neighbor who probably has a 2.4 ghz phone. I had similar problems before I flashed the firmware. Here is the site:

Anyway, my 70,000 won router now reads as a 100,000 won GS version, and has a lot more options and features, which is sort of cool.
Still can't upgrade the antennas on this model, though. Wish I could. Maybe I will try adding some aluminum foil next. heh. |
