I just got my extension on my E-2 visa. I asked my school to do it, and they extended to the end of my contract. However, I am leaving 4 days later. I'll spare you the details, but their mistake on the dates and clearly my mistake asking them to do it. It's going to end up costing me over 100,000 won in fees and missed classes to go back down to immigration and extend for four more days.
I did a search on Dave's and found some info, though most of it was from 2003 and there's a lot of conflicting info out there from my school, this board, and immigration.
Just wondering what others' experinces have been at the airport if they overstayed by a few days. Do you think it's going to cost me about the same to overstay as it would to make the trip back down there?
Thanks. |

I had to do this back in February. It's no problem. Just take your ARC down to your immi office, and proof that you are leaving the country within a month of the expiration date (ie. a plane ticket) and they'll give you the extension. Mine didn't cost anything, so you might get lucky too. Total time it took me was about 15 minutes after chatting with the woman for a bit.

That's where I had mine done. Make sure you have proof that you are leaving the country, though (i.e. your ticket, or at least a reservation). In my experience, they are pretty sticky on this one. |

Dude, just go to the immigration office at the airport and explain the situation. I overstayed by at least the same time you did and suffered no consequences (I got my school to write me out a letter in Korean explaining why I had overstayed. The immigration office photocopied it, but I'm under the impression that it was moot).
You may want to show early. When I got there as it opened it was empty, but it seemed to be filling up 15 minutes later. |
