What do you guys do with 'too cool for school' students?

I have one in my highest level class. 13-14 year olds. I rack my brain trying to think of how to present the material so that it's as fun as possible, and bring in extras, like puzzles to solve (which the class loves). But she rolls her eyes and harumphs at everything, and drags down the morale of the class. Then everyone copies her. Because she's too cool for school.

Any idea what to do?

I had a class like this too. It's usually middle school students that have this problem.

I brought them chocolate one day and noticed that their demeanour changed totally. But I couldn't bring chocolate all the time and their strange behaviour continued. It got to the point where these kids didn't want to do their homework and weren't prepared for any of the lessons. Since many of the lessons depended on their advance preparation, it was very difficult to teach.

In the end, we singled out one kid who was the perpetrator of all this and encouraged her to leave the school. After that, the class was disbanded and the students were split apart into other classes. That solved the problem.

Show her the door?

I'd be like, "If you don't smarten up your attitude, you can BUGGER OFF!"

Maybe it wouldn't work, but it'd make me feel better. It's a horrible age to teach
