Not a small read, but they're both worth it.

This site was created as a response to the muslim/Danish cartoon wars.

That contest was a clever repsonse to the cartoon furor, but it wasn't quite as outrageously self-deprecating as the contest's creators tried to make it seem.

The Iranian newspaper had announced a contest soliciting holocaust cartoons. The subtext of this request was that people in the west would be just as offended by holocaust cartoons as Muslims are by Muhammed cartoons. So the Israelis tried to up the ante and show how blase westerners are about offensive speech by having an anti-semitic cartoon contest, open only to Jews.

However:

The Iranians were not holding a simple anti-semitic cartoon contest, they were holding a holocaust cartoon contest. So if the Israelis had REALLY wanted to up the ante, they would have held a holocaust cartoon contest of their own. But they didn't do that. And I suspect the reason they didn't do that is because they knew that if they did, the reaction they got from fellow Jews would not quite have epitomized the iconoclastic "nothing is sacred" attiude that supposedly characterizes the west. At the VERY least, you would probably have seen elderly camp survivors on Israeli TV begging the satirists to make their point in some other way.

Furthermore:

A website run by a bunch of anonyomous cyberpunks somewhere is not quite the same thing as the Jyllands-Posten newspaper. If Haaretz had announced it was having an anti-semitic cartoon contest, a lot of people would likely consider that to be VERY inappropriate. And if a non-Jewish newspaper had held the contest, the condemnation would be almost universal.

I should say that the website evidently did recieve holocaust cartoons, and to their credit did not hold back on posting them. But I think it is telling that they weren't soliciting holocaust cartoons specifically in the first place.

Mith:

That was a good blog article. A lot of it summed up what I've been thinking about the cartoon issue. However...

For example, people cannot even openly discuss if the holocaust happened as much as the Jewish media claim - without losing their jobs.

I do not know how many pieces you would find me, and my freedom of speech, in. Does that mean Blacks (sorry, African-Americans, though they have no idea what or where Africa is) are barbarians?

Because the writer does not seem to be otherwise anti-semitic or racist, I am going to be charitable and assume that he meant something like "pro-Jewish media". And I will throw in gratis the assumption that he meant to say that SOME African-Americans don't know what or where Africa is.
