|
|
Dear all,
As we all know there are many ways how Koreans meet each other. I'm talking about how boy meets girl in Korea. It might be only for fun and dating, but also for finding a suitable marriage partner.
I am collecting a list of these different ways and venues how this pairing up can happen in Korea. It doesn't matter if it is for finding a bf/gf or husband/wife. Below is a short list of the ways I am aware of so far. If you know more plese feel free to post it with a short description of it. Thanks! Ummm... and sorry if this topic has already been beaten to the death!
Meeting (?):
A blind date set up by a matchmaker. Matchmaker is present at least until the introductions are done and helping to break the ice. Can also include a group of people but not usually.
007-meeting (007):
Matchmaker won't be present, but will make sure that the people meet each other by setting the place and time for the meeting. People who meet this way have usually something noticeable with them (cf. flower, book) so that they can recognize each others.
Sogetting (Ұ):
A blind date between two persons. Usually set up by a common friend (ie. matchmaker) who will leave the scene after introductions are over.
Seon ():
Meeting arranged by parents in order to find suitable spouse for their child. Usually only people approaching 30 do this.
Hunting:
Just found it out, but it's supposed to be like the name says, hunting for beautiful women on the streets. (More like back at home, right? You see something you like and you give it your best shot and damn the consequences!)
Booking (ŷ):
Happens in a fancy night club where men point at the women they want to meet and the waiter delivers the girl to the table.
Phon(e)ting () and chatting:
Trying to meet someone over the phone or through Internet chatting rooms and setting up a date.
Marriage agencies
Dating sites
Oh, and one more thing. I you knows any written information (books, articles, research) about these things, I would appreciate if you could share that information with me. *^^* |

I met my husband on the subway.
Hey, if it's right, it's right. No fancy-schmancy stuff.
If you're marriage material and you meet someone else who is, it'll work itself out within a matter of months. If you're not (or you're meeting people who aren't), it won't.
You should examine whether or not you're a "catch" before you go about lamenting that you can't find someone suitable for long-term stuff. |

I know on Sayclub.com, Koreans meet sometimes meet for these two reasons..
Bungae (lightning) - They chat online, and then agree to meet for coffee or whatever.
Bungsec - They chat online, and then meet up a couple of hours later to have sex. |

Thank you and all the others who replied. I know that some of you are actually joking, which is just cool. (Church and rohypnol must be a good combination, though!) What I was really looking for was these different terms and "tings" Koreans are using to meet people. Thanks Huck for the info!

And to the lady who so kindly suggested that I should take a good look into a mirror and see if I'm a good catch, well, it didn't occur me that I was lamenting. Maybe I expressed myself incoherently or you might have slightly misunderstood my intention? Anyway, I just want to it clear that I'm not lamenting or even looking for ways of picking up women.

| Short_skirt: I love to hear stories like that, there should be more of it. Can you elaborate, did he just bowl up to you, or was it the accidental bump into each other that you see on the movies and a conversation was sparked? |

| You should also have a good way to introduce yourself, and exemplify your pure intentions for genuine companionship. Korean women can respect a chivalrous individual. Something short and sweet, like ִ, will go a long way with the average lady you meet on the street. |
