Hello all!
I am a U.S. Citizen married to a S. Koreanm and we are going to be in Korea for about 39 days this summer (June 29th-August 6th). I know that the regular visa that Americans get upon arriving in Korea isn't going to work for me, since it is only for 30 days.
So I will be applying for a visa before I go. I found this page: http://www.dynamic-korea.com/consulate_service/visa.php Is it a C-3 visa that I should be trying to get? Does my status as a wife of a Korean citizen give me access to a different visa (or visa waiver) that would somehow be better?
Thanks for your help! |

not necessary. US citizens automatically get a 90 day soujourn, but they will only give you 30 at the ports of arrival.
After you get here, you can go to immigration and pay a 13000 won fee and fill out an application to extend your sojourn. You'll give up your passport for a week and then voila! 90 days.
good luck! |

I recently had to extend my tourist visa (don't ask) and it cost 30,000, IIRC. Didn't have to give up my passport either - in and out in about half an hour. |

I need to do so, or leave immediately. |

Where did you go huffdaddy? What immigration office?
Is it really true that U.S. citizens automatically get a 90 day sojourn? Everything I read states to the contrary. And having to pay extra for it seems like it implies the need for special permission.
Anyway thanks to both of you! |

Hmmm..I just called the Korean Embassy in Chicago yesterday and they told me I definitely need a visitor visa for my 39-day visit (which will cost $45). The woman I spoke with said I definitely needed to get it before going to Korea too.
I also asked if being the wife of a Korean citizen would allow me to get any other kind of visa for a short term visit and she said no...that I should just get this visitor visa.
So--I just put this out there in case anyone else might need to know. |
