So what's the story with getting an arc card then ?
Must your boss go with you to the office ?
How much does it cost ?
What's the story with medical ... do you get medical the same day that you get your arc.
Are you tied to your school before or after you head down and sign on at immigration ? |

You go pick it up 1 week to 10 days after you've left your passport with immigration.
No, you don't need your boss with you to pick up your ARC/passport.
It shouldn't cost anything.
Dunno about the medical--are you working for a public school? Medicals for private hagwons aren't the norm.
I'd say morally you're tied to your school once you sign the contract, but some may argue that until you've done the visa run to get your E-2 you're not legally tied. |

| There should be a sticky or FAQ on this issue. However, I think once you get your ARC card, you have to go to your boss and request the forms for the government medical plan. The boss and you have to fill them out and then file them. Since your school is legally required to pay half the plans cost, many hagwons may just well sit on this. |

| Assuming you're going to Seoul Immigration, you'll have to buy a 10,000 won stamp in the basement and pay for passport-sized photos if you don't have them already. That's about it as far as costs. I think they will now mail your ARC and passport to you if you pay the postage, but it might be COD. |

You are tied to your school once you are issued your E2. ARC, simple procedure, 10,000 won and photos, do your entry visa at the same time unless you already have it as part of your E2. Health insurance, you need to organise with your boss. |

| And don't delay on the medical insurance. You will pay from the date stamped on your ARC, no matter how many months have elapsed. May as well have the coverage if you pay for it. |

That is only for 1 type of medical insurance. There is another type which may or may not be offered to you where back payments are not required.
The most important thing is to actually get insurance. Some/many private hakwons will offer/persuade you to use their family insurance. They will say..."There is no monthly payment."
This should be avoided for at least three reasons. First, the Hakwon owners family doctor does not have your best interest in mind because you don't pay anything. Second, if you get very ill or hurt badly the family doctor may not be able to help you. Third, it is illegal. |
