Saddam Hussein thought Russia and France would prevent an American-led invasion in the leadup to war in 2003. So says a Pentagon report that uses seized documents and interviews with former Iraqi officials to detail the last months of Saddam's regime. |

Do ya think?
Biggest miscalculations of the 21st Century:
#1. Saddam: The US ain't gonna invade Iraq.
#2. Bush: Hey, boys! Let's invade Iraq.
#3. Dr. Hwang: Hey, no one is gonna notice we faked the data.
#4. ???
We're setting a pretty high standard here. There's only 94 more years to go in the century. |

Sounds like it confirms the perception of the situation that was common at the time- Saddam seemed pretty nonchalant and even confident a few months before the war, right up until a couple of weeks before the war when did a 180 and he tried to do everything he could, short of absconding- agreeing to open up to UN inspectors etc.
But by then the demands had changed to leave the country.
Miscalculated? Definitely. |
