Where are all the gyopos? By gyopo I mean born and raised abroad. There seems to be a shortage of them. My theory is that they are being snatched up by the "illegal" SAT academies. When I do find a so called "gyopo" he or she turns out to be the other kind of gyopo......the kind that can't speak English very well.
I've also noticed a change in the market. A few years ago, gyopos were paid less than other foreign teachers. Now, qualified and experienced gyopos are being paid the most...I'd say anywhere from 2.6-3.5 million. I guess the hakwon owners have finally opened their eyes.

Opened their eyes to the fact that they have someone who speaks fluent English and often fluent Korean. One who can deal with foreigners(speaks the lingo slang and all) as well as command respect from the Korean students.

Opened their eyes to the fact you dont have to run around for the E2 visa for many of them and that often they live with relatives which can save on housing costs as well.

Add it all together they are 'opening their eyes' to the fact that these people can leave at any time to find new jobs they might be paying them better and treating them better as well.

Not what I was asking Grotto....

I am curious about the gyopo and higher pay association being made.

I quite understand the prejudice being applied when teachers are hired and am against it.
