Looking to find a kenel for my two dogs for when I go on vacation?(with good standards) I'm located in Seoul. Also if there aren't any kenels does anyone know of people who sit pets?

You maybe able to drop your dog off at your vet. They sometimes have kennel services. Mine charged 10,000 per day but they may give you a discount if you need a few days.

Not sure where you live but there's a vet who provides kennel service in hannam-dong, by the 5-way intersection, first floor of "Richensia" building, located south of Dangook University main gate. During the day, they allow the dogs to romp around together in the lobby of the clinic. It's a nice little place, the doctors' dogs are permanent figures there too( i believe they have an english sheepdog and two smaller breeds). Most vets and groomers seem to provide some sort of accomodation, though i'm not sure if they all allow playtime so humanely as the one mentioned above.

er, yeah, who wants their dogs to romp together with other dogs on teh floor of an animal clinic? Sick dogs go to the animal clinic....what a good way for your dog to pick something up. I would never board my dogs at a vet's. *shudder*

OP, try to find a dog sitter. There are plenty of dog lovers among the foreign teachers who don't have dogs themselves for various reasons. You can probably find someone who would LOVE to have a dog temporarily.

You need to have a Korean friend look up dog sitters on the web. There are plenty in Seoul. Our cost W30,000 a day, however, and we had to supply the food.

Some of the pet cafes act as dog hotels. We used one near Nowon station but our dog got some sort of skin rash (after only 5 days) and he smelled like crap when we picked him up, so we won't be using their services again.

If it helps any, the sick ones don't run around with the dogs. The "romp" is made up with dogs that are staying for kennel service, and in the daytime the dogs that come to be groomed wait their turn with the dogs. I don't know if the groomers are as thorough as in the states where they check your papers before accepting you(you should probably ask). I guess it could seem risky, but from my experience at kennels in the states- there's always a breed specific dog romp scheduled in the day for other-dog-friendlys. I'm sure the owner can specify if they want their dogs secluded etc(costs 20,000/day). in any case, hope you figure it out seoul_nhl. If I could find a private sitter that's trustworthy- I'd definitely pay the extra 10 thousand won.

My point is that it is on the floor. Lots of dogs come into clinics on their own four feet. Disease and illness. Lots of dogs pee on the floor in the clinics out of nervousness, not knowing better, or because they are looking to expand their territory or whatever.....you want your dog playing in that?

Groomers do not ask for anything before they groom dogs. No papers. Nothing. Also, the same brushes and combs are used without cleaning between. I've watched. Do you really trust that other people's dogs are clean and disease free? And the dog may LOOK fine....but not be. My older dog has a raging case of kennel cough and I don't know where he picked it up or how many other dogs he may have transferred it to before he started showing symptoms and I started keeping him away from other dogs. In fact, the only place he COULD have picked it up is at the vet's because we don't ever meet up with other dogs for the very reason that I'm worried about mine picking up diseases. While mine was getting a nebulizer treatment, I asked about the tiny puppy in the cage a few feet away that seemed gravely ill. Parvo. Yes, the vet said Parvo. That is another very contagious disease and the puppy was in a cage on the floor where any "romping" dog could have easy access. *shudder*

what about cats? has a vet taken your cat? or is there a safe place to lodge them? i was thinking of going home for a month, but wasn't sure what to do with my cat. most of the people i know here either have allergies, or just don't have the space for a cat, or just don't like them that much. if i can't find someone to take him, i won't go. i also have friends with 2 cats who were looking for a place to leave them for a couple of months before they could come back and get them and take them home. PM me if you're interested in cat-sitting.

My friends in Busan had pets - a cat and two dogs. They boarded their dogs with a neighbour and the cat was sent back to the pet shop where they bought it [it is some expensive breed of cat]. The going rate for each of the animals' lodgings was 10,000 per day, plus food. I'd really love a pet, other than my two goldfish, but this is exactly why I have stopped myself from getting one; they are a nightmare if you want to go anywhere, and I always want to be going places!
