I'm given to understand that many western men who are otherwise fluent in Korean sound funny to Koreans when they speak Korean because to Koreans these men sound like women. The majority of western men who learn Korean back at home tend to learn Korean from female instructors. So it's no surprise we'd pick up certain female speaking traits.

Okay, consider the reserves situation. Lots of males in Korea teaching English. Are the girls we teach picking up deeper English speaking voices from their male foreign teachers?

By extension, is the best thing we can do for our little female charges is become castrati?

?

Just put a nasty snarl in your voice and be sure to make gutteral throat sounds. That should go a long way towards sounding masculine.
