I am due to start a job in 3 weeks time and my school would like me to arrive in Korea by 13th April.
However, the Suwon immigration office have my paperwork (transcripts, diploma etc) and have told the director it will take 7 to 10 days to process. My director will then mail the blue paper to me (another few days) which I then have to take to the consulate in London.
I have heard that this requires two trips to London a week apart because everything has to go to Croydon in the meantime! Is this true? Or is there anyway around it?
Another question, on arriving in Korea my director says that she will take my passport to immigration, but I understood that I had to go myself to get fingerprinted. |

HI Muffin
I am from the UK, so I can help you out here.
Ok, your visa will take about 3-5 days to process which means you will have to make two trips into London. When you drop off your application the lady will tell you when to come and pick it up.
Please bear in mind that visa applications can only be dropped off at the consulate in London in the morning and you can only collect your passport with visa in the afternoon.

Here is a link to the Korean consulate website. If you want to call them.
As far as I know Croydon is not involved in the process. Why would it be? They are for people coming to England not leaving it. I think someone is winding you up.
If this is your first time in Korea, you will need to get finger prints done at immigration, so you will probably go with your director to immigration. I wouldn't worry about this until you get to Korea. Concentrate on getting the visa sorted in the UK first. |

I spotted an interesting snippet on that site:-
Quote: |
Types of visa and cost: Single-entry (up to 90 days): £16.20. Single-entry (more than 90 days): £27. Multiple-entry: £43. The same fees apply for both business and tourist visas. Nationals of Italy, Japan, Spain, Sweden, Taiwan (China), Thailand and UK can obtain a visa valid up to six months free of charge. |
So Brits can get a 180-day (tourist) visa on request and FoC.
That makes sense as every time my Korean wife has entered UK she has been given 180 days. |

One thing to remember when I got my visa from the embassy (two years ago) they wanted the fee paid in postal orders which I thought was a bit weird. |

No, they only accept cold hard cash now. No cheques. But, luckily there is an ATM just over the road from the consulate if you don't know this.
