Hello all, some of this is FYI and then I have questions at the end. I just sent my original degree to the consulate in San Francisco, which is the region in which I received my degree. I ordered 10 copies of my degree at $1 apiece, and he said he would make the copies himself, so I can leave my degree at home in storage. I also ordered one copy of my transcripts affixed with the consular seal, at $2. I sent them an original sealed copy, which he said he would open and affix a seal to.
He needed the following (Just FYI):
Original Diploma (which he will copy 10X and send me back the copies.)
Transcripts (which he will affix seal to original)
Copy of Driver License
Copy of Passport
Contact Phone number
Money order for $12.00 ($1.00 each for ten copies of diploma + $2.00 for my original transcripts back with consular seal)
Return envelope with postage.
The copies weren't listed as required on the consulate site, and the consulate site requested contact phone and phone/fax of University.
I decided more was better, so included all

I will go to Korea and look for a job on the ground. My questions are the following (and any advice would be appreciated!):

Do you think I will need anything else besides the above for visa runs and employment there? I plan on staying for several years perhaps. Would you get more transcripts affixed with the seal (I have several other copies that I will take with me, one that I will swallow, and several that I will bury in Folgers cans near the Montana/Idaho border ten paces from a particular pine with a particular secret symbol carved into it)

Regarding the flight, good deals are to be had on flights that have a 30-day stay—which is what Ill be coming in on, a tourist visa—or a six-month thing. How does reimbursement work (I mean in general) once Im in Korea? Does the hogwan usually simply pay half of the ticket, and my 30-day return is sacrificed?
Also, if I show up with a six-month return ticket and a 30-day tourist exception, will this discrepancy cause undue problems?
What would you do? I guess is the question.

Thank you all for your helpIm ready for the smackdown (cowers and waits to receive the blows)

best,

Chris

Since you are buying your own ticket here, and the hakwon/school will pay for your visa run to Japan, there is not likely to be any reimbursement. Will there?

There should be reimbursement...that's the only way I'd go for that! Also, I always have the reciept fudged so it states that I paid twice as much as I did...it's better that way! Very Happy
