|
|
My wife and I are searching for a good place to live and teach in Korea with children. Aside from hoping to find suitable jobs where we'll be happy, we'd like to be a bit off the beaten track, but within a reasonable distance to a city.
1. How different is the weather between Jeju and Gwangju versus Daejeon-Seoul?
2. How bad is the smog in Seoul?
3. What's a good coastal/mountainous city of substantial size?
4. Are there university positions located throughout Korea or are they more concentrated to certain area(s)?
5. Any suggestions for searching university positions?
Thanks! |

The south coast is significantly warmer in the winter than Daejon/Seoul. Very noticable.
From what you said in your post, I think the Busan/Changwon/Masan area might be worth considering. There are lots of universities in those cities (especially Busan). All cities have mountains within view (I think). All of Korea has mountains within view. Busan is the second largest city in the country--somewhere over 3 million.
The public transportation in Korea is excellent. A bus ride from one end of the country to the other only takes about 5 hours. Google up a map of Korea and look at the suburbs and smaller cities around Busan. |

I would give you advice but you will probably rudely disregard my advice because you think you know better. |

I'll second Gangneung, having lived there for a year. It's got a "famous" beach, is near the most scenic mountains, and there's a relatively large university that makes that part of the city more-or-less a college town... |
