I have recently handed in my notice but it looks like I could be here until June. My contract states 10 days paid vacation and I have not taken any so far. The hagwon informed me that because I quit, I could not have any at all.
Does anyone know if this is true?

It makes sense to me. In my estimation, you get the 10 days vacation at the END of the contract. Naturally, people take it earlier, but that is because they are expected to work the full year.

If that's how it is then I've got no beef. I thought that they might be in breach of contract.

nope, for once they aren't illegally screwing someone (though it still isn't nice). This is how many companies back home work too.

I've known places at home where you don't get a vacation of any kind till you've completed the first full year. IOW, you live for the national holidays.

Okay that sounds fairly black and white. However, I am a bit puzzled by my Hagwon director's decision to change my teaching hours. He wants me to start a 'telephone English' program which means I will have to stay in the school up to 10.30pm to call students at home.
The following quote is from my contract:

"The instructor's working hours (3:00PM –9:00 PM) shall be determined by the School's schedule. However, the teaching schedule can be changed according to Schools schedule."

Does this mean that he can change my working hours from the time stated above, or he can merely change my schedule within this time-frame?
I am seriously angry about the prospect of working until such a late time.

I would be too. Will you get paid overtime for that? Also, does your contract say a certain number of hours at work and anything about split shifts.

On another note. I could only imagine my teacher calling me at 10:00 when I was in grade school to test me or practice. I pity these poor kids Sad

I don't understand this at all.

You quit correct? Then why worry about the director changing your hours? Just say NO. What's he going to do, fire you? Laughing

And why on earth would you stay for 2-3 more months? You are seriously begging to get screwed over on your last month's pay. It is fairly common for hakwon owners to not pay you for the last month that you worked (ESPECIALLY in your situation).

Next pay day just leave. You gave your notice and that is that.

I'm just hanging on for my Release Letter. I only resigned 2 days ago and pay day is next week. I have to wait until at least May payday before I go.
However, if I p++s him off too much, he probably won't sign the LOR.

Well, back home (Canada), you get 4% vacation pay automatically deducted from your check. So, when you're fired, you get the accumulated vacation pay. The problem with every contract I've seen, it only states you get however many vacation days (usually ten). We don't get deducted vacation pay on our checks. That's where there's a problem.

If you give proper notice, why not?

You quit right?

Why would you be entitled to paid vacation?

Are you actually teaching all of those 6 hours? That makes a difference in what he's demanding.
