Please take just a few minutes to flood the following Gyonggi KTU message board with your messages of indignation over the recent misreporting of the sexual abuse cases in the English Villages: http://chamkk.eduhope.net/bbs/list.php?board=chamkk-j2 Copy and paste this into your browser, and spam their board with strong calls for an apology. Whether the tactic works or not is not the point. Just don't sit back and allow them to think they're getting away with something. I'm sick of it, and you should be too.

I want to let you know the website address of the Gyeonggi KTU. The website address is http://chamkk.eduhope.net/bbs/index.php?board=chamkk

Instructions to post on the KTU website (I can't use Korean on my comp):

1. First box: title of your post
2. Second box: name
3. Third box: Home page if you have one and want to list it
4. Fourth box: password
5. Fifth box: type the English letters present
6. Sixth box: Condensed comment
7. Seventh box: Your post
8. Eighth box: Signature

You want this to be effective you need to get a standard letter signed by as many teachers as you can. These need to be both Foreign and Korean teachers.

You also need support from management types in school boards that employ us or in the ministry of education.

Lastly, you need a clear, polite and professional article to be published in Korean in one of the major papers. This will also require good will from Koreans in key positions.

You do that and you might get somewhere.

You send in some disorganized bunch of letters, hodge podge, some well written, others poorly written or insult filled and it will actually hurt your cause.

I can see the logic in Homer's point. Of course we are expecting the Korean press/media to actually give a damn. Would school boards or the Ministry of Education help us?
The last sentence of Homer's I especially agree with. The KTU is attacking us on our professionalism. So we need to be especially sure to maintain that. Has anybody posted anything poorly written and with insults?

By the way, I am not trying to preach here. Just tossing in my two cents.

You want to make progress you have to play the game within certain rules.

My opinion is no more valid than anothers.

I just think that if you don't want this to be yet another flash-in-the-pan outrage campaign that you need to organize and be professional about it.

You want to be recognized as serious teachers, you need to present yourselves as such. Otherwise you are just giving the people at the KTU ammunition.

Homer,

Actually I like both your ideas. Thanks for chipping in. I had said in the other thread that getting Koreans to write letters would be helpful, but never thought about school administration.

Keep the ideas coming everyone!

I also like D's ideas and links, will be making use of them tonight. And D's opinion about the importance of the KTU has been verified by all my co-workers--very few are members and most regard the organization with a certan level of embarrassment.

Now guys, please don't take this the wrong way, but I have read all of the letters on the board and all have spelling and/or grammar errors--mostly spelling. Now, sometimes I make a joke or two about spelling here, but it's not a big issue for me(except for "pronounciation" *beep* hell I hate that) but I really don't think what we need right now is some KTU hack looking in the dictionary for "botcott" and realizing it's a spelling errror. Now, we all know 'y' and 't' are next to each other on the keyboard but these arses will take us to town for that. A "See? They can't even spell!!" kind of a thing.

So I politely suggest going back for a double-check edit and if anyone wants to PM me to learn the errors I found, I would be glad to pass them along all discretely like.

Many, many super well-meaning Smile .

Someone commented on the other thread that one of the letters posted on the KTU site had spelling and grammer errors. I was able to go back and fix a slight error in mine, so if anyone wants to know how to do it, let me know.

I agree with you about insults. While it's very tempting, we have to becareful to keep it professional. I did in my letter call them lies and xenophobia (as did others) because I feel strongly that it is the truth. But maybe even that is borderline dangerous.

Dave,

I am working on a draft today to send to the Head KTU office. Copies should also be sent to as many local educational ministries, as well as the Ministry of Education in Seoul. I will post the letter for proofreading later this evening. It will be in English, so we either need someone on this board or someone with a Korean friend to translate the letter into perfect Korean - the letter should be in English and Korean.

I think if we're going to do this, the whole process should be completed within a couple weeks at the latest. Thanks, Dave, for starting this new thread.

Peace,
Daniel

Daniel...

When you finish the letter, please post it on here (just the text) so folks can copy & paste into Word or another text program. This will be a 'standard' letter, so our voice is uniform and professional.

Will do - it'll be later this afternoon or evening. If we can get the signatures and send the letters off around next Tuesday at the same time, the offices should get flooded with letters.

Peace,
Daniel

I've come across these posts in the past week or so, and used the search feature, but I can't seem to find any links to what was actually said by the KTU. Apparently it's pretty offensive, because it seems to have galvanized the community here...

Help, anyone?

Here is a link to the blog:

If you want to discuss or debate this, I'm sure they are still talking about it over here:

I'd appreciate if we kept it out of this thread.

Just curious what others think.

Is it wise to post an initial draft on here? Or would it be better to PM it to a few posters for proofreading and suggestions before posting it (for further proofreading, etc.)?

I'd be willing to look at your draft and offer suggestions before you post it online. I'm sure a number of others here would also help.
