I've basically been offered a job at a High School in Incheon. It's in Gaeyang Gu Bakchon Dong. I'm fine with all of the specifics such as pay, working hours, housing etc. My biggest concern is location. I'm worried that this place is too far out from where things are happening like Gangnam, Sinchon, etc. I know it's close to Bupyoung but anyways on to my question...

They've given me 3 days to accept b/c they're kinda desperate to get someone quick. From searching the forums on www.eslcafe.com www.worknplay.co.kr www.koreajoblink.com www.englishspectrum.com, etc etc it doesn't seem like there's any reason to hold out in hopes for a public high school job in Seoul.

Does anyone know how to go about finding and applying for such a position? B/c I've looked everywhere and can't even find the positions. My question is, if I'm set on working on a public high school should I go ahead and run with this offer or hold out in hopes of finding one in or near Seoul?

If you want a SEOUL high school, then wait for SMOE to begin hiring again in July/August for the fall term. Incheon is "near" Seoul (as in: on the subway line and/or direct city busses)

Public school terms end here in about another 7 weeks or so (24 ish of July) and restart in Sept.

Do a search for SMOE (Seoul Metropolitan Office of Education) or perhaps someone here has the link handy (cause I don't have it bookmarked on this PC).

There are lots of threads about SMOE (Seoul), GEPIK (Suburbs) and EPIK (rest of the country) on here. Pick a few and read your face off.

Yeah I've definately looked into SMOE and they are hiring for the end of August. But all they have listed are elementary and middle school positions. I've literally spent hours searching for any hint of high school positions in Seoul and my attempts have been fruitless. Do you just have to get them from the inside??

High school are usually hired in Feb. for the MARCH school year start. Sept is the 2nd term start. There are a few out there, but if you really want to get here, take the real high school job you are offered, work out your first year, and then pick-and-choose for your 2nd year position.

It's always easier from in-country. They can interview you and you can see them. Everyone is happy. High turnover rates and networking... mates refer mates for cherry jobs.

Ahhh that's what I was afraid of...sounds more like you gotta come in from the inside. Or I guess a little before March. I think I'll end up taking the job I'm being offered. Many thanks for your advice. I'm probably going to post another topic on getting a high school job in seoul in general--not b/c I don't trust you, I just want to get as much feedback as possible so I can prepare for the future. Thanks again m8!
