Check out this thing. It seems somewhat inapropriate to call it a laptop!

What do you guys think of Sager laptops? I never see any reviews on cnet.com - is that because they only look at the most popular brands? Seems a little narrow-minded to me - but then i don't really know much! |

Sager makes awesome laptops. I was in the market for one previously but two events spoiled my dream: I had to replace my laptop and didn't have enough money for a sager and was thus forced to buy a cheaper desktop pc AND I have a baby on the way (meaning frivolous purchases are going out of style in my household). |

No kidding. I sure as hell wish I had $3K+ USD lying around that I could justify plunking down on a laptop...

I used to have a Sager laptop. They're pricey but great. Couple of years ago, I used to also have the 17" "laptop" which I like alot because it had an integrated numeric pad, which only few laptops had then. They didn't make 19" laptops at that time. I think the thing weighed around 14 lbs. so lugging it around, with AC adapter etc., was a chore. Also, the advertised battery life was a little under 3 hours, but in reality, you only got an hour and a half at most. I suggest if you don't need to carry it around everywhere, a laptop with a large screen is a way to go. |

Yeah, as lostinseoul said, at least with the 17" and 19" models, sager laptops are not really THAT portable and you have to remember that when you are running a graphics card, DVD burner, two harddrives, and a lot of whistles, it will really suck the juice (hence the short battery life). Sager laptops (a susidiary of the Chinese company, Clevo), are fully customisable and therefore top of the line (since you can put the newest and greatest in them as it is released on the market), though, they are not really classified as portable but as "desktop replacements". Basically, if you move around a lot (like everyone on this board going between countries for work), and therefore can't move around a desktop so easily, but don't want to buy a prebuilt laptop where you pay more for the brand name than the 2 year old parts they put in it, then Sager is really the way to go. However, be prepared to dish out some of your hard earned cash because they don't come cheap. Also, be prepared to purchase an extra battery pack.
If you want to do a comparison on Clevo laptops, do a search on the terms "D900T" and "D900K" to begin with (17" models) and checkout companies such as Alienware, Discountlaptops, Eurocom, and WidowPC. |
