I am almost done watching the box collection of "The Office" and I have to say, it is the best!!!

I have never seen a TV show with so much hidden dry British humor in it since "Monty Python's Flying Circus"

I just heard about it while I was in Korea and I saw an episode on BBC there and I fell head over heels in love with the show.

I wish American shows had more originality as British programming....

My only pet peeve with the show is, I wished Dawn got together with Tim in the end, they would have made such a great couple....sad Crying or Very sad

What do you think of Steve Carrell in the American version?

You probably only watched up until the end of series two then.

There were two one hours specials produced to tie up all the loose ends.

If you get the chance to see them, you'll throughly enjoy them. They are better than the actual series IMO. Seeing David Brent try and adapt (well, semi adapt) to life outside the office is hilarous.

I saw one episode of the American version but I don't think it compares at all. The English actors and scripts are far superior and funnier IMO, but I guess that could be because i'm English? Agreed about seeing the extra special couple of episodes that were made, brilliant, brilliant stuff! I can't wait to go back home (leave Korea, this weekend, OMG Very Happy ) and see some more class Brit comedy shows, I wonder what is new? YEY YEY YEY!

No fatpat, I couldn't agree with you more....

Though I haven't seen the american version per-say (I came to Kuwait prior to its debute on American TV), but I have to say the American remakes of many movies and shows tend to be alittle lame compared to the originals from their respective countries.

IE- "Ring" "Ju-on" and "Dark Water" to name a few.

though, Steve Carrell is a funny actor Wink

If you liked the Office you'll probably like 'Peep Show' - another good Brit comedy.

I love it. It's comedy based on those awkward social moments that happen in the work place. Very cutting, very true to life, which makes it all the more hilarious. Every office has one of each of those character types.

In just about any other case I'd agree with you. However, the American version of the Office is worth watching. It's the same, but different. It has its own unique vibe. I'm definitely NOT saying anyone should forgo the original for the US version.

I think many people, but especially expats, regardless of origin, would appreciate the similarities and the differences.

Anyway, there are at least a couple of threads on this very subject in the off-topic forum, where it belongs.

British stuff is great. I'm a big fan of Dr Who and Jeremy Brett's Sherlock Holmes. Haven't seen The Office yet--is it downloadable ie: bit torrent?

Yes.

As for Dr. Who, have you seen the new version out last year (or maybe the year before?)

Pretty good. I thought Christopher Eccles as the Dr. was great.

Ricky Gervais has a show on HBO now called "Extras." It, too, is fantastic. But he's only done six episodes so far. More are coming in the Fall. I have no idea if you can get Extras on DVD at this point, but it's well worth tracking down if you can find it.

I just finished watching the christmas special and I got it!!!!

I am so happy it got the ending it truly deserved.
It was a true fairy tale by how Dawn came back for Tim (whoever mentioned about the extra episode- thanks)

Neither me nor my wife realized about it being in the set when she bought it.

Ricky Gervais was also the guest on Monday night's Daily Show with Jon Stewart. He's got a new book out.

Haven't seen the new Who yet...can anyone be as good as Tom Baker though?

The theme at last year's British Ball at the Grand Hyatt in Seoul was Doctor Who--I was thrilled--they had big Tardis ice sculptures in the main hall along with open season on Guiness and martinis before dinner.
Got pretty looooooped at that one Very Happy

I think you will be pleasantly surprised.

BBC link doesn't seem to be working right now, here's the CBC one:
