I had a group of hyper, over-active, wired-up middle school boys last night. It was the evening before a long weekend out here. Studying english was far, so very very far, from their minds. Suddenly a moth (nay, opportunity!) flew into the room. "One point" I declared, "to the first one who kills it!" This instantly set off a combustible stampede....no fewer than 8 middle school boys, their white shirts stained with the drippings and dribblings of breakfast, lunch and dinner, leaped on top of their desks and chairs; those unfortunate enough not to gain high ground, jumped crazily up and down swinging their copies of FUN WITH ENGLISH; all the lads were screaming, some falling over one another. One of their mates provided the soundtrack with his horrible, grating laugh which added a kind of surreal quality to the whole thing. It ended when 4 of the boys collapsed on top of one another in a heap in the back of the room....a breathless, grim yet proud held up his text book and displayed to all the now flattened moth. I don't let them off the leash all that often; but last night was priceless.

Almost the exact same happened to me last summer, except a wasp was the recipient of DEATH BY MIDDLE SCHOOLER (and it was a girl who murdered him as well!). Got some vocab in to them too after the chaos - dead, has died, death, crush, splatter, insides, gore, murder, blood and guts - so it wasn't without use.

I would say last night was pretty useless. Fun. But useless. Smile

I wonder what would happen in a Korean emergency room, intensive care ward, parliament, etc if a single fly got through security. Rolling Eyes Surely North korea should simply be mass producing flies rather than pursuing nuclear weapons?

You have to have days where you just throw the lesson out once in awhile. Everyone needs that chance.
