hello, i used to live in a small city in the southern parts of korea. but now i am going ot seoul. teaching privates down south is not a problem. i was careful but never worried. hte biggest problem would have been my director finding out i was teaching them too close to the hagwon.

how different is seoul? i hear immigration is pretty bad there. does anyone know of anyone who has actually been fined or deported? what is the average salary? does immigration actually try to set you up to bust you, like a friggin sting operation? if so that is completely ridiculous and there need to be more drugs in korea so the cops have something to do.

Soooooooo...."quercus"....you taught illegally down south and now you wanna go to the big city Seoul and teach illegally. There was a thread a little while ago(I do not know if it is still on the board) by somebody calling him or herself Phoenix. That person got busted.

As to your contention that there "should be more drugs in Korea" to keep the authorities busy so they will leave little sleazy backpackers alone....

In other words you are saying...that you feel there should be more drugs, more addicts, more sorrow in Korea so you can teach illegal privates and fill your greedy little pockets?Right? To hell with everybody else,as long as I can teach my privates and they don't catch me? Rolling Eyes

hey mody ba, what crawled up your bum?
i think you're being a little on the extremely aggressive side.
it sounds like quercus just needs a little advice. i think it's alright to ask about privates in the "big city" as there are tons of posts about how sketchy it is in seoul right now.
i don't think anyone was asking for a lecture about how bad drugs are - i don't think quercus was seriously thinking that all koreans should become drug addicts so he could make more money because he's sooo greedy and malicious he wants all koreans to be ruined. anyways, if all koreans did become drug addicts noone would hire him for privates.
to answer some of your questions quercus, as far as i know seoul immigration is cracking down on privates so it seems to be pretty risky but i don't know anybody who has been caught. there's a post here somewhere that talks about how immigration is catching people (hiring older people to follow foreigners around me thinks).
and i agree with you, the cops need to concentrate on more important things like drugs or the gang problems here or corrupt corporations.

jesus christ ..."mody ba"... you arent that dude austin with his head stuck up his ass from other posts are you?

i taught legally down south and actually had approval to teach privately from my director so long as i didnt take any privates that would otherwise have gone to her hagwon. which i did not.

i just want to know what the situation is in seoul, adn thought it may be similiar to what bap said, so thanks for the info.

i truelly love backpacking as well, but i do not think i fit your description of a sleazy little backpacker.

i dont think all of korea should become drug addicts but certainly feel many koreans would benefit from occasional use of some carefully chosen substances to chill them the hell out and keep them from drinking so damn much. i certainly dont think they should all become drug addicts though.

i also think the police really need to find something better to do than bust foreigners teaching privately. it would actually help korea in the long run bc the people are just becoming better speakers.

...."quercus".....!!

It's not the police who bust foreigners for working illegally, it's immigration.

A small but subtle difference.

"Quercus', just because your former hakwon director said he didn't care if you taught privates, did not and does not make it legal! What an idea! Laughing ("Yeah, sure,I will tell the waygook it is okay to teach privates. No skin off my---"

As to your suggestion that Koreans drink too much and therefore should "chill out"by taking "other substances". Laughing Laughing Laughing Laughing

Please do not confuse me with Austin(SCSA)..aka Pillsbury Doughboy, aka King Rat.

Yeesh...if you want to criticize Mody Ba's statements, that's one thing. But to put him in the same camp as SCSA!!!!!???? Then you believe in close companionships like: Pat Buchanan/Noam Chomsky;Dubya/Saddam;Arafat/Sharon, etc., etc.,....
