Football Star's Mother Looks Back in Anger
"If I had the opportunity to get out of Korea right now, I would do it without a moment's hesitation," An said. Kim silently held her hand. Then she said, "Yes, that is what you should do. I always used to think that too."

... Kim said she had spent 30 years "without looking at Koreans and without thinking about them. What do you think would have become of us if I had kept living here with Hines? He would probably never have been able to be anything but a beggar...."

"Even in America, Koreans don't get along. Koreans who immigrated ignored us. Koreans of the same skin color are even more racist among themselves. It doesn't make sense...."

Quote from a related editorial at the same site:
Quote:
The world is getting smaller, and racial and national barriers are crumbling rapidly. We, too, must change to embrace a multi-racial and multi-cultural era. Ideas about maintaining the purity of the bloodline are false and useless. The state must realign its institutions, businesses must open employment and society must teach the diversity of race and culture starting in childhood to change perceptions of Koreans of mixed race. The opportunity to transform these perceptions is the most valuable gift Hines Ward has brought with him.

Slooowly, the times they are a-changing. Nice to see some common sense and leadership from the media for a change.

It's weird how powerful the Korean media can be.

They swarm around Hines Ward and his Mom. They saturate the TV and print media. They make it the 'hot issue'. Then, lo and behold, a nation begins to change its perceptions almost overnight.

Roh Moo Hyun doesn't run this country. The CEO's of MBC and KBS etc do.

its good that the mother of hines is not groveling to the koreans!
she is telling it straight like it is.. good for her!
she knows the koreans want to claim him now! as their own!!
but she sees right through them!!
typical of koreans to act like this.
saying ohhh we love hines! ohhh he is korean!!! lets embrace!!
she is like STEP OFF!! you only care about him becuase he is MVP
and it makes korea look better!!!
I bet she cant wait leave korea as fast as she arrived!!
and why not get paid in the process!!

You think "mixed race" children have a rough time in korea...which they do....you should see how koreans react and treat korean women married to black men!
I would never advise mixed race couples having and raising children in korea.

Well its more interesting than what Snipes or cage had to say.

I mean how boring is this?

"I think there is a lot we can learn in the United States from the great and magnificent way you respect one another"

~Nicholas cage to korean media.

"I am very familiar with Korea as I have many Korean friends back in United States. I am very excited to visit."
~wesley snipes when he visited.

I think if I was Hines I would have something to say before I left along these lines..."Thanks for all the good will now that I'm famous and all, but I really would like to tell you all that you can kiss my big black a$$."
He should be proud of what he's accomplished. Everything's not tied to you're race...at least I don't think it is.
