Hi,

I'd like it if anyone can give me an idea of what happened to my laptop. Acer Travelmate, 6 mo. old. Worked like a charm, never a problem until Friday.

Fellow teacher, professed techie, said he had some memory he'd sell me cheap. I needed more memory and he said it was no problem. He'd come and put it in, he'd done it many times....

So he opens the back of my laptop. puts in the memory into the extra slot . Reboots the computer. It doesn't register the new memory. So he shuts it down, reopens the back. Takes out the memory, wipes it. Also takes out the other memory chip (original). Puts it back in, says it was in crooked????? Puts the other memory in again and then tries to restart the computer. WONT START. NOTHING. Absolutely no response. So that was the situation.

What could have happened?????? I was told by ACER theyd have to send it out of the country to be fixed, 6-8 week turnaround. UGHHHH. So I took it to a service place in Yongsan. Will cost approx. 200,000 won. Says it is because the part from ACER is more expensive than usual because they are uncommon here in Korea......but I understand little what he is saying about the computer, he is speaking with my girlfriend by phone....

Any thoughts what was the problem??? I am crossing my fingers I can pick it up fixed tomorrow and send the bill to the guy who tried to put the memory in...

Update:

Computer fixed, cost 170,000 won. I don't know what it was. The service guy said it wasn't the power supply, which seemed to be my thought. He asked if the computer was turned on when the back was off????

Anyways fixed, bill sent to my helpful friend. Also, sending him his memory back, service guy says it was faulty.
