Hey guys,
I'm about to graduate with an undergrad degree in Biomedical Computing and, rather than proceeding with a masters just now, I decided I wanted to travel, see the world and live abroad. Then, I heard about ESL and here I am. I applied to JET and was short-listed so am thinking of just going to Korea. I have made up my resume and cover letter and posted it at:
www.giraffemonkey.ca/resume.html

So, I have a few questions for your brilliant and ever-so fruitful minds:
1) I am brown. So, I was hoping to use a recruiter to help me find a non-discriminatory school. Do you guys have any Canadian-based recruiters that you would recommend? I just sent in my application to footprints and canada-esl but I don't know any others. Can you help?
2) Do you guys have any suggestions fro the resume?
3) Should I go with JET if I hear from them before getting a job with a Korean hogwan?
4) Do you guys know of any more boards I can post on/get more info from (because this board has been SOOO helpful and I was hoping to get even more)?

Thanks sooo much for any info you guys can provide!!

I used footprints and I think they're really good.
They can only do so much though... especially when looking for non-discriminatory employers.

My friend works for a really good school here in Wonju that you may be interested in if you like children. Their director is a sweetheart and seems quite educated... my friend has had no problems with racial discrimination and she's originally from Grenada. Not all Koreans are ignorant racists... this particular school is actually one of the better ones in our city. The hours are great and so is the pay.
pm for details... I could maybe put you two in touch. Her contract ends in June and I know they'll need to replace her.

I'm black and didn't have much trouble finding a job here. But I really dont know what kind of obstacles youll have being brown. Dont just use one recruiter send your resume to as many as possible, those in Canada as well as the recruiters here in Korea. Good luck!

do you have some recommendations on recruiters? Considering the things I've read... I'm thinking I need to be careful?

I'm gonna definitely send in my applicancy for short-list but who knows if I'll get it. Plus, it seems like I won't save up much money if I go the JET option so I don't know how plausible that is (airfare not covered, living not covered, etc)...
