It might be sluggish due to various bits of leftover programs that were left loaded into your computer. Your best bet would probably be to download a program like onyx to clean up all the stuff on your computer. This program usually returns my ibook to its normal fast self Smile

As msteck01 suggests, downloading a program like onyx or macaroni is often all you need. Some of these programs only offer free-trials of about 30 days however, but you can do manual clean-ups yourself easily enough: -

Repair disk permissions - once a month or after a major download

1. Open Disk Utility (it's in the Utilities folder, within Applications)
2. Select your hard drive on the left and click Repair Disk Permisssions

Remove unused and unwanted files - once fortnightly

1. Open Terminal (again in the Utilities folder)
2. Type the following at the prompt: sudo periodic daily weekly monthly
3. Press return
4. Type the computer's admin. password and press return
5. Wait for the prompt to return

yeah, there are viruses, but there few and far between and it's pretty unlikely you have one. To be safe you should have some sort of antivirus installed and keep it current, but I've never needed it.

clean up the harddrive and, as stated, that should fix you up.

The few viruses that have popped up for the mac have been "proof of concept" type viruses. Moreover, to be infected they would require many actions on the part of the user.

Yeah, then he'd really have a virus. Great advice. Everyone who is worried about viruses, run out and buy a PC. You'll be safe then. Laughing

I hate to point it out but the newest Intel chipsets have built-in virus protection. Fill me in on how macs are so cutting edge in this area. This whole mumbo-jumbo on how macs are virus proof is bologne! The support that IBM compatibles (do people even call them that anymore?!), have for spyware/AV/firewall programs plus the newly hardwired intel chips make them much more secure in this arena. Where's the support for those programs on Macs? It's very limited.

Sorry, this has been eating me for weeks everytime I have seen this thread.
