So I downloaded Oblivion to test it out to see if I wanted to buy it or not. And lo and behold my computer couldn't handle it even on low settings no matter what I tweaked. I had a 5700LE 256mb card. I thought about it for a couple of days and I decided that if my card couldn't handle this game then it wouldn't be able to handle any of the new games that are going to come out. My problem was that my motherboard only has an AGP slot. So I could either buy a new motherboard and video card or find a decent AGP video card. I had been looking online and found the 6800gs cards decently priced with alot of power. When I went to techno mart all they had were PCI-Express cards or crappy AGP cards.
So I went to Yongsan on Sunday with pregnant wife in toe. I struck out for about an hour because I was looking in the wrong places. Finally I had someone tell me that they might have what I am looking for in the Sun Ill building. The first place I went had a wide selection of video cards. They had only one brand of 6800GS for the AGP. It was a Emtek Zenon card that had stats that were way over the ones that I saw on the net. He wanted 250k for it. He wouldn't bargain so my wife decided we should keep looking. After an hour of wondering through that building I found out that he was the only one who one. So I went back and bought it from him for 250k along with a 420w power supply for 50k.
I got home and installed the power supply and the video card. (The power supply was the first one that I have installed on my own  It plays Oblivion on high settings with no noticable slowdown. This card has better stats than any of the 6800GT's that I have seen online besides the pipelines.
The cards stats:
12 pipelines
512mb
450/1200
Will get some benchmarks when I get home. I have been unable to find any info on the net on Emtek or Zenon. I think that I got a bargain though. |
