If you have a 200 gb HD or so, with more than 1 partition, could you hide one of the partitions (say 100 gb) to make it appear as though that "space" is simply unformatted or defective or something like that? What program do you think could do it? |

That's sort of a good point actually: who does the OP want to hide the partition from?
Hiding the partition from a casual browse of your pc, or search by a law enforcement agency, customs, or RIAA?
If it's the latter there's not much point. You can't hide anything with any degree of certainty.
If it's the former, than a few obscure folders and sub folders would suffice, I think. As an admin, limit access to them.
What you want do, hide the partition, I can't imagine a situation where the above wouldn't cover it easier. |

Norton Ghost has a tool called gdisk, which is used to create partitions and can hide/unhide a partition. Boot w/ a DOS boot disk and then insert another floppy w/ gdisk, or better create a bootable CD and add gdisk to it. (If your system can boot w/ USB-based devices that's another method.) Create your partitions if you haven't done so already. Once they are created you can later specify which one to hide. Note: you'll want to hide the partion after your system is loaded and you've put the data you want hidden onto the still visible partition. Once that's done reboot w/ the DOS boot disk, run gdisk, and hide the partition. Gdisk is command-line based, and to get a list of the available commands type gdisk /? or gdisk ?. To unhide the hidden partition you'll use gdisk w/ the unhide switch. The hidden partion will not be seen by Explorer but the OS's Disk Manager will show the partition. |
