|
|
The course fee for TESOLonline.com is about $300, whereas I have seen some CELTA courses for $2,000. The $300 course is done completely online, but the courses in Ital, Thailand and such are $1300 with housing for 4 weeks.
I would like to work towards one of the certifications so I can become a better teacher, as well as put myself in a better position to be hired at a university, or great public school job, and the increase in salary. Can someone tell me if the $300 online courses are recognized the same as classes done in person? Thanks! |

There is a reason online ones aren't accepted. I have seen people with newly printed MA's in TESOL who couldn't teach their way out of a paper bad (really), let alone an online certificate. The reason they aren't is there is no evaluated teaching practice. You won't find one that does you any good except for learning strategies and theory, which is good. For your career though, it's useless. For your own information, some are ok but I would rather just buy a well written book on the subject |

as far as EPIK is concerned though, do the online ones satisfy the criteria for being placed into level 1, provided i have 2 years experience?
from the EPIK website: TESOL/TEFL/CELTA certificate (100+ course hours)
it doesn't mention if it has to be online, or an actual class where people meet in person. |

They are looking for 100+ course with teaching practice. Trust me, I am at a public school and I have a CELTA. That is what they are looking for. That's not to say they won't notice or process yours through without checking it. I do know some people who had only an online and got the salary bonus. Some didn't as they were more thorough. It's a gamble. |

They took my online course no problem.. I told them it was completely online, and that it was 110 hrs. That was fine for them. I work at a public school. |

Counter to previously suggested opinion - a good MATESOL program WILL have observed teaching practice. |
