Just doing a quick poll to see what the MOST important factor is when teachers select which school they will work for. I know all of these are important, but if you had to choose one....which would it be?

You should have an "all of the above" option.

Mine would be teaching environment. Do they want a real teacher or not?

Enviroment... both at home and work. A year in a good place goes so much further than a year at a bad one... can only really suss that out by being here to look at things.

I didn't add "all of the above" because I wanted to know the the MOST important factor. So far, I am surprised with the results. I figured location and salary would be a biggy. These two factors seem to be the most important ones to all the instructors I have talked to. I think I need a larger population sample......even if you guys don't post a reply, please vote!!! Thanks.

Gosh, you think like a Korean!

This pull is ultra-stupid, because it doesn't include the one thing that most ESL'ers look for: VACATION!

Unfortunately, most schools think this way, too.

You spell like a Korean and you must be blind. What the heck is a "pull?" If you look at the last one under "benefits" you'll see vacation.

I voted for vacation. I have no idea what I will do when I leave Korea in a couple months but it will give me more than 2 weeks vacation per year.

Well, it all depends on you, doesn't it? I wouldn't work for my old hogwan if they offered 3.0 / month and a two-bedroom flat in a nice area. Why are you coming? To experience a different culture? To party it up? To pay off student loans asap? Because you like teaching?

Some things your poll didn't include were:

- teaching at a real school and not some joke of an academy
- age of the students
- class size

I think the first one would fall under reputation.
The second one does come up often....I can't believe I left that out.
The third is important, but I don't think that is a concern for most teachers unless they work in a public school. Most hagwons only can hold 12 students per class.

I guess for ppl voting, ask yourself this, "If you absolutely had to take this one job and you could only control one of these factors, which would it be?"
