Hey guys long time lurker first time poster..

I'm considering a contract in Incheon and from my research it has been described as the "Coney Island of Korea" to "The the ugliest place in Korea" the best thing anyone has said is "...some allright neighbourhoods". Whats your personal opinion of this place?

The ONLY redeeming quality of Incheon is it's proximity to Seoul
and the party island of Deokjeok-do. (where we have a big annual
party in September) I have been here 10 years and that is the only
good things I have to say.

I used to live there and sometimes come back to visit. It's ugly and the people are ruder. Bupyeong is all right. If you come try to get a place close to the subway.

I like to think of Incheon as the dysfunctional rectum of Korea. Avoid it like a case of H5N1.

Thanks guys. So what your saying is basically that Incheon is a straight up slum?. It must have some good nooks and/or crannys..surely?.

The pollution there will wipe out many of the inhabitants in no time.

My school and kids rock but if I go out its 95% in Seoul. I'd never stay another year here, Seoul all the way next contract!!!!!!!!!!!!

Oh and traveling on the subway always makes me smile, if your with a korean woman the scowls are increase directly proportionally the further along you go line 1.

As you may/may not know many Koreans use the word "hate" very often. That is because they truely hate one another from the other side of the mountain. Needless to say what they think about you the mixed-race foreigner. I heard many Koreans from the Jeolla province have migrated to the Incheon area.

That is where the lowest of the low are from according to some Korean people. Those people have been discriminated against for years by their fellow brothern, they often have an accent and particular appearance which can be detected from other Koreans(in some instances foreigners).

Many Korean mothers who are not from that area tell their children to stay away from those kind of students in school.

I was told from another Korean that my former employer was/is from the Jeolla province area. My former employer fired me illegally among other very nasty things. You do the math!

I only know a bit of Incheon. A few friends also know a bit. None of us say it is pleasant. But maybe that was just me and them. To me, it seemed a bit rougher, more hostile than the few other areas of Korea I have been.

Seoul generally seemed more civilized and friendly to me than Incheon, and I feel Seoul is not a friendly place!

Exceptions exist, thankfully. I liked Shinchon (Yonsei area)

I live here now. I do not find it slum-like or hostile. It is a safe place to live, and I find most people to be quite friendly. It is, however, quite boring, so going into Seoul on a regular basis is a must, especially if you like to party. Other than it's dullness, and lack of greenery (which is common in many larger cities) I find Incheon to be an average place to live. I'm sure there are better, but there are also worse places, I would imagine.

I have lived in Incheon for the past 4 years. I have found it to be a great place to live and wouldn't even think about moving back into Seoul. I think the main question here is, "What do you want from the area you live in?" I have found everything I want here. Incheon is a large industrial port city. There is no denying there are many factories here and the air quality is not the best....in some areas. But the air sux in every big city here. Wherever you go, there will be bad areas and good areas. I guess I have been lucky enough to see the good areas here.

Thanks fellas. So how important do you think location is in choosing a job?. I have a couple of offers in better locations (Muk Dong, Anyang) but the best one (money,trust, hours) is for Seogu, Incheon. If you were a first timer would you make the location a major factor in your decision?.
