|
|
I just purchased a new laptop and want to replace the Korean XP Home with my English XP Pro. Is the process the same as on a desktop? Is there anything that I need to know about this before I begin? I do have the recovery disks with the laptop. I assume that all the software that came with the laptop will be lost, unless I can just upgrade windows instead of reformatting the entire drive?
Any heads up would be appreciated. |

After you've installed English XP, you'll need to load it up with the drivers. Vanilla XP usually doesn't have all the drivers for highly specialized laptops. You'll probably have to then run the Korean driver set up CD. It's going to then put on a lot of Korean apps. Some of your hardware property pages are probably going to have Korean screens. It's possible you can get the English cds or download them from the company's web site. |

your best bet would be to get a cheap external harddrive to back up whatever information you need to back up. Then, hard format the drive. If you try to switch over from Korean to English XP, you will most certainly run into problems with possible corrupted .dll's, drivers, and other things.
Hard formatting the drive is good because it will erase those unwanted adware programs that may be lurking around. Also, it will give your pc a clean slate. A hard format every year or so will definitely keep your pc at optimal output.
I recently reformatted my compaq laptop with a fresh English windows xp. I didn't have those extra crap programs that i didn't need. It is great. It actually runs faster now (more memory free, less crap running that I no longer used, etc.).
As for drivers, don't worry. Just download them from the net once you re-format the laptop. That is what i did and everything is peachy-keen. XP is built so that you won't have problems starting up the laptop after a hard format. Just get onto the net and start downloading the appropriate drivers. If you are really nervous, just download them onto a cd before you format the laptop. This way, you have them ready to go.
To find out what drivers you need, check out your PC's specs. in hardware manager. You'll be fine... |
