A few weeks ago I got quite a lot of support here when I had that serious problem with my boss not changing the dim light bulb in my bathroom. Im back, now that an equally serious problem has emerged.

My school has the old-fashioned blackboards. This was not a serious problem when the weather was cold. I could wear white gloves and not get chalk on my hands. Well, the weather is getting warm now, and yesterday it bordered on hot. My hands were sweating inside my gloves. I dont know the words to express what a disgusting feeling that is. Im sure many of you know what Im talking about.

So I thought about it overnight and this morning I made a proposal to my boss. I very politely informed him that my parents didnt spend their hard earned money for me to attend Hattie B. Toity College of Liberal Arts so that I could work in a dirty, sweaty environment. I suggested that he hire an ajumma to do the writing on the blackboards with that awful chalk. I am perfectly willing to do the spelling. All she has to do is follow my instructions.

This would also solve another problem. I am only 39 tall and stand on a wooden box when I teach. It is not very dignified when I have to step up and down on the box. When the ajumma isnt writing on the board, I want her to lie down on the floor. Then I can use her for a step. It would be so much more dignified for me. I think any school would want its teachers treated with respect and the dignity they deserve. Its good for the schools and its good for the profession.

My boss threw me out of the office. He was shouting and spitting and red in the face. I have no idea what he was saying. Frankly I dont care what he said. Whatever it was, Im mortally offended by his behavior.

Should I threaten to resign, or do you think I have the grounds to sue?

What are you doing writing anything on the blackboard? You know the only way to teach English is just to talk AT them, and get them to CHANT back.
Maybe that's what your boss was saying.

I couldn't figure out who Ya Ta was assuming the identity of, then I saw the 3'9" and it clicked: Alexander Pope.

Obviously your boss is an idiot to lose such a fine example of teacherness as yourself. All he had to do was buy you chalk holders. Not the ajuma, the little metal things the chalk goes in.

Why would you want an ajuma? If you were thinking straight you would have demanded a 20 something year old hottie.

Would have been hard interviewing all those girls. If you are open to this idea give me a PM and I'll help you with the interview process. Laughing

If I still taught, I'd force my boss to buy these.

I don't think I'm trolling. I was just inspired to make a little story by posters who said these things on the Job Forum today (This isn't in my contract. Is it in yours?):

Quote:
I spent 4 years studying my arse of to get a degree. A little tidying or sweeping is OK, but there's no way I'd be putting up with what you're doing. A degree-qualified person doing undue 3D work is insulting and demeaning.

Quote:
Tell them you're not cleaning anymore. That's just ridiculous. If anyone should be doing it, it should be your *beep* boss. Tell him to do it.

It's a task to get anyone to clean my classroom at the hagwon. I believe the last time the desks where cleaned was maybe 2 weeks ago. But I just refuse to lift a finger to clean anything.

Quote:
I can't believe you're mopping the floor. Ha! ...

C'mon! Get some balls and tell your boss, "I'm not cleaning anymore. That's not my job. I am an English teacher, not a janitor. I can't believe you think I should clean. I have lost respect for you and am beginning to lose respect for this country. I think you should clean the classroom from now on. Do you think you are superior to me? I am very angry and I don't think I should be teaching here anymore. You don't respect teachers."

Quote:
Either take a stand and tell them to hire a cleaner...that you are a teacher and will only teach English...not be a janitor as well.

Quote:
UNDER NO CIRCUMSTANCES should you be vacumming or mopping! You do have a degree, you earned it to avoid doing jobs like that! If some dumbass wants to clean and mop floors let them...dont do it yourself.

Ya-ta Boy,

I was trying to figure out who writes this kind of stuff when I had a look at your bio, then it all became quite clear. You most certainly win this weeks award for most posts in a single day at 29 on April 11th, and well done for closing in on almost 5000 posts since joinging Dave's.

This reminded me that around the time I joined Dave's -- maybe just before, maybe right after -- the big debate here, the big topic, the big stink was:

The Disappearance of the Post Counter.

Well, that and:

"Nazi MODs Drunk With Power on Canadian Suds"

"Is this Harin Creature for Real?"

"Is that Pink Shirt-Wearing Korean Dude Studly or Flamin'?"

"Will I get Banned If I ask Why X, Y, Z, A, B, C, and D were Banned?"

What happened to this place? And all the hoops I jumped through to join, too! Ya talk about bait & switch? This was classic bait & switch! If they can't fix the phBB error, if they can't bring posters back from the dead, and they can't stop getting drunk on Canadian beer.... could they at least bring back the Post Counter?

And Sparkx?
