Hi all! My wife and I are planning to leave Canada and teach overseas. She has an M.A. in English as well as a B.Ed. in Education with a major in English and a minor in ESL - I have a lowly B.A. in Philosophy - what would the likelihood of my wife landing a uni job be and is there anything other than teaching that a B.A. can get you into in Korea? Thanks.

your wife should have a good shot at landing a uni job with the qualifications she has...but do your research. Some of the uni jobs are not so wonderful,to put it mildly. The B.A. in Philosophy you have does not mean too much, if anything(nothing personal,a B.A. in Philosophy just does not cut too much ice anywhere) would get you a teaching job(probably at a hakwon(private school)..or maybe something on that level. What else could it possibly get you? If it was a degree in engineering or something technical,yes...but not a B.A. in philosophy. They just "aint" very marketable,in Korea, the US or anywhere. Anyway, best of luck. Smile

Yes, my degree has allowed me to think very deep thoughts about being unemployed. Thanks for your response.

path_77,

You might be able to upgrade your ESL skills by getting a CELTA.

CM made a good suggestion. If you get a cert, though, be sure to check out the program before you give them any money.Don't brood over that philosophy thing...lots of people have graduated from a uni to find their degree is not marketable. Life goes on. I am sure you will do fine.Best of luck. Smile
