Hi all
I didn't think I would, but I am almost certain that I would like to renew my contract with my current school in September.
What would be the best way to go about it?
Would it be ok for me to say to them straight out that I would like to renew OR should I wait for them to ask me?

I'd try talking it over with other teachers. I've already had a number of teachers tell me they really want me around next year, and given what an old boys and old girls network exists around my school, that has to be a very good thing. |

my opinion, ask them how the process works, but not committing. tell them you have an interest, so they know you want to, but dont let them think you already decided.
a friend of mine was interested in working at the high school connected to my middle school. i think they had the impression that she would come no matter what, because i was here. so when she visited, they showed little interest and offered a terrible contract. I think they figured she would accept it no matter what. Then they made no effort to try to contact her.
so if you decide to stay, it MIGHT be harder to fight for a raise or any other requests if you tell them you are staying.
that same school, when the old teacher was thinking about leaving, he told them he wasnt sure. they offered him more money and an extension on the deadline of when they needed an answer. then another extension and more vacation.
obviously you like the school, but it is business.
good luck. |

I dont think I'd ask them directly. Honchos here might read that as you being pushy or be irked at having to think about something that isnt yet officially required. They'll ask soon enough. Then they'll think of it as their own great initiative.
Meanwhile, you can drop hints about how happy you are working there. When they do ask is the time to hesitate just a bit & say I'd love to but [insert one or two modest requests here].
Best luck. |
