This was inspired by the thread "A thought..." I don't have a sock, btw. First, I wouldn't be good at disguising myself. Second, to me, it seems.... less authentic, I guess (sorry for the Oprah-ism, but "dishonest" was my other word choice, and that seems too strong). I can't smell socks, either.^^ I can't figure out how some of you guys spot them. Maybe some of y'all are more intuitive. Dunno. Anyway, just curious.

Of course I have a "sock" - but I'm not going to tell you what it is . . .

It's not like "periwinkle" is your real name, is it?

Socks are usually used by people who serve other functions and wish to keep personal from business or other functions private.

What IS your name?

I use at the bank and for other business purposes and it actually works, so I can say with some confidence that I am who I am. My sock's quite the opposite to me - the most kind, innocent, and least belligerant poster on Dave's.

I think you misunderstood me. Or else my writing sucks. I'm talking about having different monikers on on-line discussion boards. I'm not talking about e-mail addresses. For example, one guy mentioned that he had 9 different socks on Dave's. Meaning he used 9 different names, such as "periwinkle", "p", "p- girl", etc., etc., etc. Different names, same poster.

"Periwinkle" could be my real name. I worked with a woman named Sparkle once. Gwenyth Paltrow's daughter's name is Apple. My real name is Alpha Mike Yankee, btw. Wink

pet lover IS my sock. I go by an entirely different name in real life. It makes stalking Ya-ta Boy easier.....he doesn't know when I'm around this way. Laughing

I kind of wish I did have a sock for each of the different kinds of posts I make. It would also make it easier to hide from you-know-who.

Spotting socks is easy- much like spotting plagiarism in papers by high school students

Years ago I had anotehr name on here but it was... expired.

For the last two years this has remained my one and only.

No, but I have a brown sock for sale on the buy & sell forum, cheap.

(The question isn't really whether we have a sock but rather whether we have a PAIR.)

I too had another name which expired, but only a month or two ago. It became inactive and despite several emails would not be reactivated. Must have been too busy dealing with the php critical error.

Now I am Zoidberg.

No socks on Dave's. How can anyone manage it when you have to submit a resume to get an account here?
