SO I made a complaint against my former employer here on Daves. Now she is threatening to get a lawyer to sue me and get me deported. I am aware that in Korea there is something that employers can do if you try to ruin therir business or steal their customers. However an honest acounting of the shaby treatment I recieved on a web site hardly seems to me to be an attack on the business. Does anyone have some actual knowledge on this field. I find the cloudy world of Korean English Teaching to be full of more rumors than facts. I would like to know exactally what she is capable of and if anyone has experiance in this area. Personally I think she is full of it and I'm not to worried but I'm a man that likes to have all his bases covered. Any info on this topic would be much apreciated. Thanks.

Im not actually worried about being deported. But I would like to know what the line is concerning just what your school can do to you and what you can do to your school. I know of a school who tried to get a teacher banned from Korea for e-mailing his old students and trying to get them to come to his new school. However I never heard how it ended.

I can see where that might a boss riled up. I know there are rules about that in the business world back home.

Hey OP.

The only thing she could sue you for is Defammation.

The defences to libel are limited, but yours would surely be "Fair Comment". Providing the account you gave of your boss is accurate with no lies or exaggeration, then she has little or no ground to stand on. Even in Korea, we're free to voice our opinions or concerns (just think about all the internet blogs where people lambast each other etc.), and providing we're not being malicious or untruthful, there's no problem.

I really wouldn't sweat it, if I were you.... Smile

How could she even prove it was you? She'd have to contact Dave's administrators to get the IP information.

Hmm. How did she know about the comment? Sounds like some of your ex-coworkers dimed you out. Of course someone you know who still works there is playing both sides (you and the boss).

Here is my advice: Stop talking to the people at the old school and stop posting about the school on the internet and it will all blow over in a few weeks. Stop stop stop talking to the co-workers at the school as they are probably passsing everything you say to the boss to make them more angry. Everyone always says the K-teachers are back stabbers but trust me....so are the western teachers.

I think she would have to prove that your posting had somehow damaged her business before she had any sort of legal case. How many Korean hagwon mummies read Daves?

I don't know what you said but they can first go to the police and make a complaint. The police will investigate. The possible punishment is 2-50 million Won and prison time(I forgot how much, I think at least 1 or 2 years).

If you are not found guilty they can then go to the prosecutor and file a criminal complaint. I'm assuming they would say that you slandered them.

Move to a different place and only let Immigration know your address/phone number.

What is your definition of deficate? First, you spelled the word wrong or you are using the wrong word. Do you know Englishee? If you mean defecate that means doing # 2, hopefully in the toilet. If you mean defamation, go back to high school!

In the original post you refer... No personal names were mentioned. Often times information is shared about this or that school whether it is good or bad. The OP should not worry in the least. If Indicus used a pc bang there is no way to prove the person actually working at the said school is the author. Ha Ha Ha yourself!

Yes...i know what deficate means. He basically S$%# on the schools name on the other post. Please tell me you know what that means? If not let me spell it out to you: H.E. B.A.D.M.O.U.T.H.E.D.T.H.E.O.T.H.E.R.S.C.H.O.O.L. As for the spelling, that's what I get for typing over 60 words a minute and not spell-checking because I have a class to go to. Poor me...oh no...I didn't spell check when I posted on Dave's ESL Cafe. Oh no..... Rolling Eyes Laughing Laughing Laughing Get a life...

Now...onto the OP: yes, he should have nothing to worry about. Cool
