You can get your E2 before September 1st. When you get your visa stamp back in your passport there will be a date stamp. You then have three months from that date to enter Korea. When you arrive at customs immigration will stamp the visa page acknowledging what day you arrived in the country, your E2 visa is THEN in effect. Your E2 is valid from the day you enter Korea, NOT the day you start work. This causes problems in your case, as you want to go the week before. Effectively, in this instance, in the eyes of your employer that means you have had your first week off. It, therefore, would be advisable to talk over such a move with your employer first.
The only way round it I can see would be not to get the visa, enter on a tourist visa earlier in the week and then later in the week go on a visa run to Osaka. If you get your E2 and then try to enter on a tourist visa for the first week I'm guessing this would cause great confusion and upheaval at immigration and you would still then have to leave the country and come back in again later in the week to get your E2 stamped anyway.
Ah the madness that is Korean immigration procedure. |

You can come anytime.
LS, why make it so complicated? He comes in early, say a week or two, and near the end of his E2 he can get a simple extension. It takes one trip to the immigration office to extend an E2 visa. |
