I'll be heading off to Seoul in a few weeks. I need some clothes (casual) to teach in. Since Ireland is quite expensive, I was wondering if the price was more reasonable in Korea.

You can find decent clothes here in all price ranges. Avoid the big Korean department stores--very high prices. Look at places like HomePlus and other discount stores, neighborhood markets, Namdaemun (a shopping area in Seoul)... Last weekend I picked up decent dress shirts for W13,000 and ties for W10,000.

The only real limitation is size. If you are a large person, you may well have trouble locating the sizes you need. It is sometimes difficult to find shirts above 100. Some places carry 105 and fewer carry 110.

it's almost impossible for me to find dress shirts here....i need a 110 for the arm length, but then the neck is way too big for me.

On the other hand, it is relatively cheap to get dress shirts made. One of my coworkers gets dress shirts made regularly for around 40,000 won. That's cheaper than what my dad buys off the rack in the US.

I'm a small guy so clothes here fit me great. Ties are always the perfect length too -- I can't tell you how awesome that is.

if you have any sort of concern for your appearance I would buy as much as you can before you come

euro/us clothes here are very expensve

the local fashions are essentially appalling, and hang off one's frame like a tired piece of sack cloth

if on the other hand you may dig jeans done in cargo style with pleats and a nice stone wash finish - prominently branded with some improbable italian/french name i.e romeo canaloni you won't have a problem
