Jodi at Asiapages criticised an Asian American site for anti white racism, and they hit back saying that this forum is a race hate site towards Koreans.

What say you - Daves ESL cafe Korea forum a racist site?

Daves isnt anti anything. Its an open forum where people come to talk, sometimes vent and express their thoughts and opinions.

While there are some negative things said about Korea or Koreans they are usually stated about personal experiences and reflect more of the differences in culture than anything else.

The mods on this site also are quite strict in dealing with any overt racism and justifiably so.

No.

For one thing, diversity of opinion is generally tolerated at this site.

For another, most of the time it is people venting about idiosyncratic behavior that they are trying to come to grips with. It's about working out and understanding the differences in expectations. Some do take it too far, but the board is self-policed and the mods take care of anything over and beyond what is reasonable discussion.

Finally, this site is mostly about sharing info to make our lives and jobs easier. The term or idea of race itself rarely comes up. While discussions about the ethnic / cultural group known as Korean are common, they are not a race. And those types of posts are again, venting; not out and out hate. Again, it's about discussing the differences in expectation, not condemning, berating, hating or diminishing them as an entire group like that other site does to whites.

I initially misread the title of this thread as 'Is This Forum a "Rice Hate" Site,' and my initial reaction was yes, it certainly is; and, furthermore, it's a 'corn on pizza hate' site.

Sometimes I wonder why I even bother with this place.

No, I think it's generally constructive.

But the "race hate" label is a knee-jerk reaction from 44s and AsiaFinest. I read the post on your site, shakuhachi, and I too am always alarmed at the vitriol coming out of some of the Asian-American community.

But check out this riced-out Camaro!

I can see where people might react to this site as an anti-Korea forum.

When I joined in the summer of '99, it happened to be at a time when there were some Korean nationals who came online. There were several members who openly posted things like: Get out of here. You are not welcome. This site is for us to openly express our feelings. I have to bite my tongue at work, and I want a place where I can say whatever I want without having to defend myself to yet another Korean.

In the course of about a year, all posts from Korean nationals stopped.

There are still posts saying things like 'All Koreans...', usually when someone has just been screwed at work. I know they are probably just expressing themself poorly by over-generalizing, but still. The statements are made.

There is one poster whose recent sig is "All blacks suck".

No, I'm not surprised that some people think this site is bigoted. People who argue that Koreans are not a race and therefore it's open season on them for bigotry are being foolish.

The level of hatred that runs through some of those Asians in America warrant careful watching. Perhaps many of us "white boys" are being foolish. I think the average asian is fine but there seem to be some very dangerous people out there.

One more note: I don't suffer from white guilt. Whatever some white person may have done in the past has nothing to do with me. I feel no guilt at all, much like Korea feels none for what they did in Vietnam, or China to Tibet, or Japan to most of Asia. Everyone of us needs to get over this false guilt of the past.

Only if you consider Canadian a race Wink

Seriously though, this place is pretty tame. Aside from one jerkoff going on about how Koreans smell, I have never read anything too offensive. You get a lot of "why do Koreans do this or that", but that's about it.

And, of course, there will always be some anal poster to point out that Korean is not, by textbook definition, a "race" and therefore there can be no racism.

The poster is probably a Rugby fan. Rugby is a sport played outside America. The New Zealand team is called the "All Blacks" because of their black shirts. New Zealand is a country in Oceania.

Perhaps the performance of the NZ team lead the poster to express their displeasure in an ambiguous way.

I've spied on a lot of hate websites (Stormfront, Combat18, and so on) and when you get down to it, what they discuss isn't much worse than a lot of what's posted on here.

Who said either of these things? I don't see it.
