With the weather warming up, I'm feeling the ol' urge to barbecue starting to rise. Even moreso, I've begun thinking about constructing my own smoker for use here. For those unfortunate ones amongst us, a smoker creates a sense of smell around it that would rival ten charcoal barbecues combined.

My own personal tastes usually lean towards dry-rubbed ribs with a Kentucky sauce (made with Jim Beam, not Jack Daniels--you can't use a Tennessee bourbon in Kentucky ribs, after all), but I'd imagine that large strips of pork would work pretty well. I'm thinking that either a metal garbage can or metal siding would jury-rig around a charcoal barbecue pretty well, and that I could procure some wood from a local rotisserie place for the burning itself.

Anyway, I was thinking that the parking lot at my school would be a good place to set the thing up on a Saturday, but I'm still wondering about the setup itself. Specifically, I'm wondering if anyone has tried doing any barbecuing here and would know of a good place to get some equipment (Carrefour has some things but is still somewhat deficient in these matters). Secondly, I'm wondering if there might be another location that would work well if my school's doesn't pan out. Of course, if anyone's interested in helping out, we could certainly make it into a bigger event.

What about the roof? You could tie idiot strings to the ankle of each guest as he/she came out the door and then place bets on which one would be first to take an accidental header. A little danger added to a pig roast would add just the right amount of...dare we say 'spice' to the night?
