I'm due to arrive in Korea in the next few weeks, and am curious about the price of cigarettes over there. At home (the UK), ciggies are very expensive and I tend to smoke roll ups as they are kinder to my cash flow. I also smoke less than if I have a pack of 20 (s'pose its a convienience thing). Is this the case in Korea? Can you buy tobacco like golden virginia, drum etc over there? What about skins (rizla) and filter tips, are they available too?

Ciggarettes are very cheap here. I've seen so many friends who've tried to quit and can't blame it on the price. If you're a woman though, it might be best not to smoke anywhere the students can see. There's still a hell of a stigma about women smoking here.

2,000 won to 2,500 won a pack. That's like $2 to 2.50 U.S., which I think is the same in Euros.

Pretty much all of the cigarettes are charcoal filter, and pretty generic. I find most foreigners reach for Dunhills as a general rule, but that's just my viewpoint.

They don't import too much (although they imported Nat Shermans for a bit at a 7-11 of all places), mostly just Marlboro and Dunhill. Again, 2,500 a pack.

Not sure how easy it is to find rolling tobacco. I'd imagine at least as hard as cigars.

There are several places selling cigars in Itaewon. Geckos, and the little corner shop next to Goldfish bar to name two.

of price:

1/ Internet - http://www.cigarsofhabanos.com/index.asp

2/ Korean Habanos Distributor (Nice shop!) - http://www.pierrecigar.com

3/ Hamilton Hotel Shopping Mall 2nd floor

4/ Anywhere else and your wasting your money.

Actually, no. An English friend of mine smokes rollies and says it's impossible to get tobacco over here. He gets his (very accomodating)parents to sent him a care package of baccy, papers and filters every few months.

Are there brands that are chemical-free, ala American Spirits and Winstons. I smoked those back home and would prefer a healthier *cough* cigarette. What does the high-class adjoshi smoke?

you can not get rollie smokes here (well not that i can find), papers are 5000 won per 100, so if you get duty free make sure that you bring enough to last same goes for filters.

i am not sure how much they check you coming through customs (came through twice never been checked) so you could try bringing more through than what you are allowed (5, 50gram packets). I guess the worse that would happen is they would get taken off you or you would have to pay duty?

hope that helped

I was also a rollie smoker in th UK. I agree it's a tastier, more natural kind of smoke.

But price and convenience soon got me onto the Dunhills here in Korea. Or the Japanese brand, Mildseven.

About 1.50 in UK pounds per pack!! Laughing followed by.... Mr. Green

You might find something random tucked away randomly in some random store in some random part of town in a random city in Korea, but it looks like all the fancy guys just smoke those super-thin gay cigarettes.

Oh, they have bamboo cigarettes or something like that here now. Peaked my curiosity.

Try and get your hands on cloves (Ansan area). They typically have a bit less chemicals, but not nearly as much as American spirit.
