Hi,
I read in K Scene about the picnic for Canada Day on the 25th. Does anyone have a website for this? Are we to sign up online or by phone? What's the dealio?
Thanks!
J

It is sponsored by the Canadian Chamber of Commerce in Korea.
The information is all here:
http://www.ccck.org/home.htm

The last few years it was nothing more than an overpriced drunk fest.

I won't be going this year.

PS. for those who have gone in the past, it is in a new location this year.

Those CCCK idiots are a bunch of Koreans that don't give a crap about Canada. They are only in it for the money. If they cared, they wouldn't treat it like a cheesy money-grab for homesick Canadians and they'd damn well hold it on July 1st. It's on a weekend this year and they could do it, they just can't be bothered.

Imagine having Korean Independence Day in February.

Hey,
Thanks for the help. I looked at the website, and now I'm not sure I want to go. It is pretty expensive. Can anyone who has gone give more information about what the schedule is/if it was fun/etc. There are about 20 of us thinking about going.

Does anyone know what the happenings are for real Canada day?

Thanks!
J

Yeah, sitting around with a bunch of canucks talking about the weather and drinking beer - I think not.

Why not wait until July 1st? Isn't Canada Day the following weekend?
There goes my plan to show up this year.

It is NOT usually worth the money.... AND I for one will never go again.

5 tries and 4 were a waste.... (2002 was OK)

Well, I don't know if it is worth the money. 40 bucks for two beers and a meal is what I am paying, also there's a concert and other weigookins. Should be interesting, something to do...

And I leave, just in time to celebrate the real Canada day in Canada! Cool

HMMMMM? It's about 7,000 won overpriced I figure.

Price breakdown should be like

2 Canadian beers 10,000 w (max.)
Burger and chips (fries?) 10,000 won
Music 10,000 won (I'm being generous)
Total = 30,000 won

Actual price 37,000 won

Worth it? If it's a good time, it is.

Knowing Koreans, they probably tried to book the site at the last minute and it was already booked.

I agree,. It bites that the party isn't being held on July 1st.
The Canadians on Dave's should organize our own gathering for July 1st. It will be better and cheaper. We could chill out by the Han river with some brews.

As I recall the meal was pretty good, catered by TGIFridays or somewhere like that. I believe you can get cheaper tickets if you opt out of the food.

Is it worth it? Maybe, if you're homesick. Rocky Mountain Tavern would probably be a decent (cheaper) alternative though.
