Well I cant get furry pets as I'm allergic to hair, but I thought a terrapin might be pretty cute.

I know NOTHING about them tho. Anyone own one at any point in time?Do they grow big? Do they enjoy company? Do they need a lid on their cage?

Near where I was living until recently was one of those shops full of pressure cookers where they cook up roots and herbs, and also cats and fish for health drinks. Actually I never saw the cats, but my korean friend assured me they like to drink cats for health purposes, and they get cooked up in those places. Anyway, outside this pressure-cooker filled shop they kept their fish in a big plastic tub (no aquarium for these guys, unlike the restaurants). They were those black ones that are fairly long and quite thin (but a lot chunkier than eels).

The thing was, very occasionaly there weren't fish in the tub. There were other things. One day I walked past and it was full of these bright green sea (presumably) snakes, thrashing around. I was tempted to put my hand in to see if they'd bite and if they were poisononus.. but.. I thought better of it. (Kind of like the way you like to touch red things to see if they are really that hot..) A few months after the snakes I walked past and it was full of terrapins. Or they might have been baby turtles or something I guess.. but they were small and had shells and.. looked terrapin or turtleish. Unfortunately they'd been cooked up and tonic-ized by the next day though. Anyway, if you want a cheap terrapin, I suggest strolling past these kind of shops, and if they have a tub outside full of terrapins.. help yourself. They'll only get pressure-cooked and drunk otherwise.

-HE

PS. Any oriental medicine specialists out there who can tell me the specific benefits of cats, sea-snakes and turtles as a health tonic?

Cat soup is good for people with bad backs. The limberness (limbertood/limberarity/limberosity?) is transfered to the ailing person's back. According to an ex-student, it's important the cat be alive when it is dropped in the boiling water.

I guess they don't use the cats that get squished into pint glasses then.

That's nice! But what about the terrapins? Blunder1983, did you end up getting any?
